A.Y. McDonald jet pumps lift water from a well or well point that sits below the pump and deliver it to a pressure tank on a factory-set pressure switch. Shallow well models carry the ejector in the pump housing and lift from up to 25 ft. Convertible models take the ejector on the pump body for shallow wells or down the well for water to 120 ft, and the 1500 multi-stage reaches 160 ft at pressures to 102 PSI shut-off. They are for homes, cabins, farms and small commercial supply on a private well.
We supply all nine series, with the ejectors, tanks, switches, motors and repair parts that go with them, and size them from your depth to water, the pressure you need and your flow. Will It Work for Your Well?
The four questions that decide a jet pump purchase, answered before the detail.
Warranty
1 year from the date of installation, or 2 years from the date of manufacture, whichever comes first, under A.Y. McDonald’s published limited warranty terms. The motor and the pressure switch carry their original manufacturer’s warranty.
Reliability
Cast iron pump bodies, ceramic/carbon shaft seals, and UL and CSA listed NEMA J and square flange motors with built-in automatic-reset thermal overload. The working parts come out with the motor, so the piping stays put, and A.Y. McDonald uses standardized parts across the jet line.
Fit
Depth to water decides the type: shallow well to 25 ft, convertible to 120 ft, multi-stage to 160 ft. The switch cut-out has to sit below the pump’s shut-off pressure, so a 40/60 PSI system takes a High Pressure model. Single phase, dual voltage 115/230V.
Size It Now
Enter depth to water, pressure and flow and see which jets cover the duty, then size the tank. Or send the numbers to sales@watermainsupply.com or call 1-888.510.4036.
Three types. Depth to water picks the type; the pressure you need picks the model.

1/2 – 1 1/2 HP115/230V 1Ph
20/40 – 40/60PSI factory switch
The ejector sits in the pump housing in front of the impeller, so one 1 1/4 in suction line runs to the water. Five series: High Capacity for flow at 20 to 50 PSI, High Pressure for 40/60 PSI systems, and the E-Series 8300 to 1 1/2 HP.
8100 High Capacity and High Pressure: NEMA J motor
8500 High Capacity and High Pressure: square flange motor
8300 E-Series: 1/2 to 1 1/2 HP, up to 32 GPM, 304 stainless shaft
Best forShallow wells, driven well points and cisterns with water within 25 ft of the pump.
One pump for a shallow or a deep well: bolt the ejector to the pump body for water within 25 ft, or put it down the well for deeper water. The internal regulating valve is set by hand for deep well use.
8200: NEMA J motor, to 120 ft
8600: square flange motor, to 120 ft
8000 E-Series: 1/2 to 1 1/2 HP, up to 46 GPM
Best forWells where the water is deeper than 25 ft, or may drop below it.
Two stages build more pressure than a single-stage jet: with its ejector, shut-off reaches 89 to 102 PSI. The SW models run without an ejector for high volume from shallow sources.
NEMA C keyed-shaft motor, cast iron diffusers
Automatic regulating valve on the 1575 and 1510
1510SW and 1515SW: up to 42 GPM without an ejector
Best forDeep wells that need pressure, taller homes and higher switch settings.
Quick rule. Water within 25 ft: a shallow well jet. Deeper, or likely to drop: a convertible, or the 1500 past 120 ft. Then match the switch: 20/40 or 30/50 PSI on a High Capacity model for more water, 40/60 PSI on a High Pressure model or the 8350HP and 8315, because the switch cut-out has to sit below the pump’s shut-off.

Sizing & Best Practices
How we size a jet pump, and what to check before it goes in.
1. Measure depth to water
Use the pumping level, not the standing level: the water drops when the pump runs. Within 25 ft of the pump, a shallow well jet; deeper, a convertible with a deep well ejector, or the 1500 past 120 ft.
2. Set the pressure switch from the pressure you need
Pressure needed at the pump = pressure at the highest fixture + 0.433 psi per foot of elevation + friction loss. Choose a switch whose cut-in meets that figure. Example: a house needing 30 PSI at a fixture 10 ft above the pump, with 3 PSI of friction: 30 + 4.3 + 3 = 37 PSI, so a 40/60 PSI switch. A 60 PSI cut-out needs a High Pressure model; from 15 ft of lift, the 1 HP 8110HP delivers 10.0 GPM at 40 PSI and 6.5 GPM at 60 PSI.
3. Estimate peak flow honestly
WSFU and Hunter’s curve (IPC Table 604.3) for residential demand; the IAPMO Water Demand Calculator for light commercial. Then read the pump’s grid at your lift between the cut-in and cut-out columns.
4. Check the limits before the grid
Priming: A.Y. McDonald jets start with the pump and suction line full of water, and a reliable foot valve holds the prime; an air leak in the suction line loses it. Switch: the cut-out must sit below the shut-off at your lift. Power: confirm 115V or 230V and set the voltage change device to match. Tank: size it from pump GPM and switch setting.
Rule of thumb. If the switch cut-out lands within 10 PSI of the pump’s shut-off at your lift, the pump crawls at the top of every cycle. Step up to the High Pressure model or a bigger HP.

A blank cell is a pressure the pump does not reach at that lift. Shut-off is the zero-flow ceiling, not a working point. Deep well: the 1 HP 8210 or 8610 with the 7903-JP in a 4 in well gives 5.5 GPM at 20 PSI from 80 ft and 2.8 GPM from 120 ft. Head in feet = PSI x 2.31; 0.433 PSI per foot of lift. What Makes A.Y. McDonald Jets Different
The design decisions that show up at the wellhead.
Ejector Built In
On the shallow well models the nozzle and venturi sit in the pump housing in front of the impeller, so one suction line does the job and there is nothing to install in the well.
Convertible by Moving the Ejector
The 8200, 8600 and 8000 work as shallow well pumps with the ejector on the pump body, and as deep well pumps with it down the well. The pump stays the same.
Multi-Stage Pressure
The 1500 puts two stages behind the ejector, so shut-off reaches 89 to 102 PSI: room for higher switch settings and taller buildings.
Factory-Set Pressure Switch
Every pump ships with its switch set: 20/40 PSI on the 1/2 HP High Capacity models, 30/50 PSI on most others, 40/60 PSI on the 8350HP and 8315. It adjusts in the field.
Certified for Drinking Water
Every A.Y. McDonald jet pump carries NSF/ANSI 61 for drinking water system components and NSF/ANSI 372 for lead content.
Serviced Without Breaking the Piping
The working parts come out with the motor adapter or seal plate, with nozzle clean-out and drain plugs in the housing.
Three Motor Families
NEMA J threaded shaft (8100, 8200), square flange with high service factor (8500, 8600) and NEMA C keyed shaft (1500), all dual voltage with built-in overload protection.
Brass or Thermoplastic
Most series offer a brass impeller or an engineered thermoplastic one, with cast iron bodies and ceramic/carbon seals.

Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we answer most often on A.Y. McDonald jet pumps.
How long is the warranty?
1 year from the date of installation, or 2 years from the date of manufacture, whichever comes first, under A.Y. McDonald’s published limited warranty terms. The motor and the pressure switch carry their original manufacturer’s warranty.
Shallow well or convertible: which do I need?
It depends on depth to water when the pump runs. Within 25 ft of the pump, a shallow well jet with the ejector built in. Deeper, or likely to drop, a convertible with a deep well ejector to 120 ft, or the 1500 Multi-Stage to 160 ft.
What is the difference between High Capacity and High Pressure?
High Capacity models give more water at 20 to 50 PSI and shut off at 58 to 64 PSI. High Pressure models give less water but hold pressure to 70 to 80 PSI at shut-off, which a 40/60 PSI switch setting needs.
Can I set the switch to 40/60 PSI?
Yes, where the cut-out sits below the pump’s shut-off at your lift. On the High Pressure models, the 8350HP and 8315 it does; on the High Capacity models, which shut off at 58 to 64 PSI, it does not.
Are these jet pumps self-priming?
A.Y. McDonald jets are started with the pump and suction line completely full of water. A reliable foot valve holds the prime, and an air leak in the suction line makes the pump lose it.
Are they safe for drinking water?
Yes. Every A.Y. McDonald jet pump on this page is certified to NSF/ANSI 61 and NSF/ANSI 372.
Which ejector do I need for a deep well?
It depends on the casing and depth to water: a 4 in two-pipe or a 2 in single-pipe ejector, chosen by HP and depth from the tables on each product page. Send the casing size and depth and we will pick it.
What size pressure tank do I need?
Size it from the pump’s flow and the switch setting so the pump runs long enough each cycle. The Tank Calculator does the arithmetic, and our diaphragm tanks run from 2 to 119 gallons.
Can I run it on 115V or 230V?
The single-stage models are dual voltage: the 1/2 HP ships wired for 115V, larger models for 230V. Change it with the voltage change device on the motor to match your supply before power is applied.
Do any of them run without an ejector?
Yes. The 1510SW and 1515SW deliver up to 42 GPM from shallow sources without an ejector, and A.Y. McDonald publishes no-ejector performance for the 8200, 8600 and 8000 for high-volume, low-pressure transfer.
