Brass and stainless ball valves (1/2 in – 2 in), PVC ball valves with FxF or SxS ends and union-type variants up to 4 in. Lead-free brass gate valves and swing checks (1/2 in – 4 in). Boiler drains, hose bibbs, sampling faucets, and CPVC drain valves. The general-service valves that complete every install.
Five valve types cover virtually every isolation, drain, and service-tap application in pump and waterworks installs. Pick the right valve for the right job — ball for fast on/off, gate for less-frequent isolation, swing check for backflow, hose bibb for outlets, drain for service.
Lead-Free · Stainless Options · 1/2 in to 2 in
Quarter-turn brass ball valves — the most-installed isolation valve in modern plumbing. BV2T-LF (1/2 in) through BV8T (2 in) lead-free brass. Stainless variants (BV3TSS, BV4TSS, BV5TSS) for aggressive water chemistry. Threaded NPT connections, full-port flow on most sizes, lever handle for fast operation.
FxF or SxS · EPDM Seals · 1/2 in to 4 in
PVC ball valves with EPDM seals for general-service isolation in non-potable, irrigation, chemical, and aggressive water applications. PIBV-T-R series with FxF threaded ends; PIBV-S-R series with SxS slip (solvent-weld) ends. 1/2 in (PIBV2) through 4 in (PIBV16S-R). Significantly lower cost than brass on equivalent sizes.
Service-Friendly · Removable for Maintenance
PVC ball valves with built-in true-union joints — allows the valve to be removed from the system for service or replacement without breaking pipe joints. UBV3S-R (3/4 in) through UBV16S-R (4 in) with EPDM seals. Premium for irrigation manifolds and any install where the valve will need future service.
GV Gate · SCB Swing Check · LF
Lead-free brass gate valves (GV2TLF through GV16TLF) for less-frequent isolation in larger sizes — preferred over ball valves on 3 in and 4 in lines for lower cost. Brass swing check valves (SCB2TLF through SCB8TLF) for one-way flow control. Threaded NPT connections throughout.
HB / HBBV / HBSF · LF + Stainless
Standard hose bibbs (HB2TLF, HB3TLF) for outdoor and utility outlets. HBBV ball-valve hose bibbs (HBBV2T-LF, HBBV3T-LF) for quarter-turn operation. Stainless variants (HBBV2TSS, HBBV3TSS) for coastal and food-grade. HBSF sampling faucets (HBSF2TLF, HBSF3TLF) for water-quality testing taps.
BD · DVC · CPVC Globe Stop
Lead-free brass boiler drains (BD2-LF, BD3-LF) for tank and water heater drain ports. Plastic Celcon drain valve (DVC2) for non-potable irrigation drain. CPVC globe stop valve (GV2W-CPVC) for hot-water and chemical-service shutoff in PVC/CPVC systems.
Lead-free (LF) is the standard for potable installs. Stainless (SS) for aggressive water chemistry — high-iron, high-chloride, hot water, or salt-influenced.
| Part Number | Size | Material | Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| BV2T-LF | 1/2 in | LF brass | Standard residential potable isolation |
| BV3T-LF | 3/4 in | LF brass | Standard 3/4 in supply isolation — most-used |
| BV3TSS | 3/4 in | Stainless | Aggressive water 3/4 in |
| BV4T-LF | 1 in | LF brass | 1 in supply / drop pipe isolation |
| BV4TSS | 1 in | Stainless | Aggressive water 1 in |
| BV5T | 1 1/4 in | Standard brass | Larger residential / commercial (non-potable) |
| BV5TSS | 1 1/4 in | Stainless | Aggressive water 1 1/4 in |
| BV6T | 1 1/2 in | Standard brass | Commercial supply (non-potable) |
| BV8T | 2 in | Standard brass | Larger commercial (non-potable) |
Note: BV5T, BV6T, and BV8T are standard brass — not LF. For potable install above 1 in, ask about LF or stainless special-order options. Federal law requires ≤0.25% lead on potable wetted surfaces.
PIBV-T-R = FxF threaded. PIBV-S-R = SxS slip (solvent-weld). All EPDM-sealed for chlorine and chemical tolerance. Union variants (UBV) for service-friendly installs.

Gate valves are preferred over ball valves on 3 in and 4 in sizes — lower cost, lower torque to operate, suitable for less-frequent isolation. Swing checks (SCB) are an alternative to spring-loaded checks for horizontal runs.

Choosing the right valve for the application means lower cost, easier service, and a system that works the way you intended.
Ball valves are quarter-turn quick on/off — designed to be fully open or fully closed. Gate valves can throttle flow but operate more slowly. Use ball for routine isolation and shutoff; use gate for less-frequent main isolation, especially on 3 in+ lines where gate is cheaper.
Federal law (2014) requires ≤0.25% lead on wetted surfaces in potable systems. Specify LF suffix on every valve in a drinking-water install. Standard non-LF brass (BV5T, BV6T, BV8T) is for industrial, irrigation, or non-potable replacement only.
High-iron, high-chloride, sulfide-bearing, or hot-water service corrodes brass valves within 5–8 years. Specify SS variants (BV3TSS, BV4TSS, HBBV2TSS, etc.) for these conditions. The cost premium is small relative to repeat replacement labor.
Anywhere the valve might be replaced or removed for service — specify union variants (UBV3S-R through UBV16S-R). The union joint lets you remove the valve without breaking glued or threaded pipe joints. Saves hours per service call.
PVC ball valves come with EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer) seals as standard. EPDM resists chlorine attack — critical on chlorinated city water and pool systems. Don't substitute Buna-N or Viton without verifying chemical compatibility.
Wells under regulatory monitoring (commercial, multi-family, public) require a dedicated sampling tap. HBSF series sampling faucets have a smooth bore that doesn't trap residual water — gives accurate test samples. Mount post-treatment and pre-distribution.
Use BV3T-LF (3/4 in) brass ball valve. The most-installed isolation valve in residential plumbing. Lead-free for potable compliance.
Use HBBV3T-LF ball-valve hose bibb (3/4 in). Quarter-turn operation lasts longer than rotating-stem traditional bibbs. Lead-free for potable compliance.
Use HBBV3TSS stainless ball-valve hose bibb. Required within 10 miles of the coast and on any food/beverage service install.
Use GV12TLF (3 in) or GV16TLF (4 in) brass gate valve. Lower cost than ball at these sizes; lower operating torque on larger lines.
Use UBV3S-R, UBV4S-R, or UBV5S-R union PVC ball valves. EPDM seals tolerate chlorinated city water. Union joints simplify zone valve replacement.
Use BD3-LF (3/4 in) brass boiler drain on the tank tee drain port. Standard for residential bladder tank drain valve. Threaded NPT mount.
Use PIBV4T-R or PIBV5T-R threaded PVC ball valves. Significantly lower cost than brass for irrigation, livestock watering, and other non-potable applications.
Use HBSF2TLF or HBSF3TLF sampling faucet. Required on commercial, multi-family, and public water systems. Smooth bore prevents sample contamination.
