Grundfos
Grundfos chilled water, condenser water, hot water and domestic water equipment for data centers and mission-critical buildings: inline and end suction pumps, split-coupled pumps, packaged DELTA HCU pumping systems, Hydro MPC-E booster systems, and the ASME expansion, buffer and glycol make-up equipment that goes around them.

Data center cooling runs on water. Chilled water loops carry heat from the CRAH units, CDUs and rear-door heat exchangers to the chillers; condenser water carries it to the cooling towers; domestic and make-up water keeps the towers, humidifiers and restrooms supplied. This collection gathers the Grundfos equipment for each of those loops in one place: TPE3 and TP inline pumps, VLS vertical split-coupled pumps, NB, NBE, NK and NKE end suction pumps, NBS and NBSE split-coupled pumps, CRE-DP differential pressure pumps, DELTA HCU packaged HVAC pumping systems, Hydro MPC-E booster systems, and GFXA, GTXA, GNTA and GCBT ASME tanks with GGMP glycol make-up packages.
We supply the full Grundfos commercial building range as 60 Hz US builds, with engineering-led sizing and selection: send us the flow, head, liquid and voltage and we match the model on its published Grundfos curve before you order. Email sales@watermainsupply.com or call 1-888.510.4036. Genuine Grundfos equipment, factory-new in original packaging — sold and supported by Watermain Supply, an independent industrial supplier.
The four questions a mechanical engineer or facility manager asks first, answered from the Grundfos data on each listing.
Grundfos pumps and booster systems in this collection are covered for 12 months from the date of purchase under Grundfos’s published warranty terms. Each listing states the term and any Grundfos caveat. For DELTA HCU systems, tanks and glycol packages, ask us for the Grundfos terms document with your quote.
Split-coupled NBS, NBSE and VLS pumps change the seal without moving the motor or realigning the coupling, and VLS needs no inertia base. DELTA HCU systems ship pre-piped, pre-wired and tested at the factory. Grundfos states that its pumps are tested at the factory before shipment.
Commercial lines run on 200-240V or 440-480V three-phase; TPE3, TP and the smaller CRE-DP builds also come in single-phase. Working pressure runs from 145 PSI (TP) to 175 PSI (end suction, VLS, DELTA HCU) and 232 PSI (TPE3, Hydro MPC-E CRE). Liquid range is up to 284°F on NBS and NBSE.
Booster systems: run the Booster Calculator for the duty point. HVAC pumps and packaged systems: send the GPM, head and liquid to sales@watermainsupply.com or call 1-888.510.4036, and we read it against the Grundfos curve.
Three lines carry most data center projects: a packaged system for the plant room, a split-coupled pump for the big loops, and a booster for domestic and make-up water. Every other line in the collection is grouped below by the job it does.

Packaged HVAC pumping system
Two or three NBSE split-coupled pumps with MLE motors, stainless steel manifolds, suction diffusers, check valves and the CU 352 controller on one base, tested at the factory. One suction, one discharge and one power connection on site.

Split-coupled end suction, variable speed
The NBS hydraulics with the drive built into the motor. The split coupling lets the seal be changed without moving the motor, and the motor needs no separate VFD panel.

Variable speed booster system
Duplex and triplex CRE or CME pumps, each with its own built-in drive, run by the CU 352 multipump controller. Dry-running protection is fitted.

Ranges are the published maximums across each listing, not one duty point. Head and flow maximums are separate limits; the curve on each listing shows what one build does at your flow.

Sources: the Grundfos data on each listing in this collection. DELTA HCU rated flow is for the whole unit; max head is the single NBSE pump in the largest build.
The closest equivalents on our site, compared on the figures each listing publishes. Pick the one that fits the duty, not the logo.
| System | Max boost | Max flow | HP per pump | Warranty (per our listing) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grundfos Hydro MPC-E CRE | 59-143 PSI | 138-633 GPM | 3-10 | 12 months from purchase |
| DAB Esybox Max Triplex | 83-136 PSI | 190-229 GPM | 2.7-4.7 | 24 months from purchase |
| Franklin Electric VR SpecPAK Triplex | To 250 PSI | 630-1,850 GPM | 15-50 | 12 months from install, 36 with commissioning checklist |
| A.Y. McDonald DuraMAC IQ1000 Triplex | 56-150 PSI | 240-420 GPM | 3-10 | 1 year from install or 2 years from manufacture |
Verdict: Hydro MPC-E covers the widest spread of mid-size duties, with a drive on every pump, the CU 352 controller and a 232 PSI working pressure. DAB Esybox Max wins on warranty (24 months), self-priming pumps and a compact 49 in wide footprint for loads under about 230 GPM. Franklin VR SpecPAK wins outright above 633 GPM and up to 250 PSI. DuraMAC IQ1000 offers single-phase builds that Hydro MPC-E CRE does not.
| Pump | HP | Published range | Speed | Construction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grundfos NBE | 3-30 | Per-model curves, PEI VL 0.40-0.50 | Built-in drive | Cast iron, stainless impeller, ANSI 125 flanges |
| Franklin Electric AG A349 Flanged | 30-75 | Flows to 900 GPM | Fixed, 3600 RPM | Cast iron volute, CA6NM stainless impeller, back pull-out |
| Franklin Electric DC4 NPT | 20-50 | To 650 GPM, heads to 300 ft | Fixed, 3600 RPM | Cast iron, 4 x 4 in NPT, 150 PSI |
Verdict: for a variable-flow HVAC loop, NBE saves the separate drive and its wiring, and its DOE PEI rating is published on the listing. Franklin AG and D series win where the duty is fixed speed and needs more horsepower in a close-coupled pump (AG to 75 HP), or where NPT connections suit the job.
Start from the loop, then the demand pattern. The recommended line is where we would start; the curve decides the model.
| Application | Demand | Start with | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Secondary chilled water | Variable flow | NBSE, NKE, TPE3 | Built-in drives; control on differential pressure across the far coil or the pump |
| Primary chiller or condenser loop | Constant flow | NBS 1750, VLS, NK | One pump per chiller or tower cell is common; size each at its design flow |
| Modular or offsite plant room | Variable flow, N+1 | DELTA HCU | One skid, one power feed, BACnet standard |
| Zone or CDU loop, higher head | Variable flow | CRE-DP | Factory DP sensor; proportional pressure simulates a remote sensor |
| Domestic water and tower make-up | Peaks and low-flow nights | Hydro MPC-E CRE or CME | Pair with a GFXA tank; GFXA-HP above 150 PSI |
| Small chilled water loop | Chiller short-cycling | GCBT buffer tank | Adds loop volume so the chiller runs steady cycles |
| Glycol loop | Leaks and venting losses | GGMP + GNTA | Refills with the right mixture; GNTA absorbs thermal expansion |
| Domestic hot water | Recirculation and expansion | TPE3 stainless, TP bronze, GTXA | Stainless or bronze housings for potable water |
Two calculations decide most selections in this collection: the flow a cooling load needs, and the pressure a booster must add.
Hydronic flow from load. For water, GPM = BTU/h ÷ (500 × ΔT), where ΔT is the supply-to-return temperature difference in °F and 500 comes from 8.33 lb/gal × 60 min/h. A ton of cooling is 12,000 BTU/h. Glycol mixtures carry less heat per gallon, so they need more flow for the same load: use the factor for your mixture.
Booster pressure. Required boost = target pressure at the highest fixture + 0.433 PSI per ft of elevation + friction − minimum inlet pressure.
Before you order: confirm the liquid (water or the glycol percentage), the minimum suction pressure, the supply voltage and phase, and whether the loop runs constant or variable flow. Chiller makers state a minimum loop volume, usually in gallons per ton; when the piping holds less, a GCBT buffer tank makes up the difference.
What separates these lines from a field-built pump room, in Grundfos’s terms.
TPE3, NBE, NKE, NBSE, CRE-DP and every Hydro MPC-E pump carry the variable frequency drive on the motor. The MLE motors on NBSE and CRE are permanent-magnet designs that Grundfos rates IE5.
NBS, NBSE and VLS separate pump and motor with a split coupling. The seal comes out without moving the motor, and VLS mounts in-line with no inertia base.
Hydro MPC-E and DELTA HCU stage their pumps with the CU 352, which alternates duty and standby and alarms on faults. BACnet is standard on DELTA HCU; a CIM module adds other protocols.
DELTA HCU systems leave Grundfos pre-piped, pre-wired and tested as a complete unit, so commissioning starts from a working skid instead of a pile of parts.
DOE Pump Energy Index ratings appear on the end suction, split-coupled, TPE3 D and VLS listings, so efficiency can be compared line to line on the same scale.
Grundfos states that a data center can save up to 50% on pumping energy with distributed pumping: smaller variable-speed pumps close to the load instead of one large central pump.

Yes. Every listing in this collection is a 60 Hz build for the US market, ordered by its Grundfos part number.
Flow in GPM equals BTU/h divided by 500 times the temperature difference in °F. A 400-ton load at a 10°F difference needs 960 GPM. Add the loop friction for the head, then match both on the pump curve.
All three are end suction pumps with built-in drives. NBE is close-coupled, NKE is long-coupled, and NBSE is split-coupled, so its seal can be changed without moving the motor.
When the piping holds less water than the chiller maker’s minimum loop volume, the chiller short-cycles. A GCBT buffer tank adds the missing volume so the chiller runs steadier cycles.
An expansion tank absorbs the change in water volume as the loop heats or cools and holds system pressure. A buffer tank adds thermal mass to the loop. Many chilled water plants use both.
Yes. DELTA HCU ships with BACnet as standard, and Grundfos CIM and CIU modules connect the variable-speed pumps and Hydro MPC-E controllers to BACnet, Modbus and other protocols.
