FlangeLock Restrained Flanged Coupling Adapters — Styles 911, 920, 923

Smith-Blair FlangeLock adapters combine a flanged coupling with integral pipe restraint in a single unit — eliminating the separate restraint harness or thrust blocking that standard FCAs require. The restraint mechanism grips the pipe OD mechanically, preventing axial pull-out under system pressure or surge without concrete thrust blocking. This makes FlangeLock adapters the preferred specification for trenchless installations, valve replacements on live mains, and any connection where thrust block construction is impractical.

• Style 911 – FlangeLock Restrained — for Cast Iron and Ductile Iron Pipe; the standard specification product for DI water main connections to flanged valves and hydrants
• Style 920 – FlangeLock Restrained — for PVC Pipe; engineered with OD tolerances and bite geometry specific to C-900 and C-905 PVC pipe
• Style 923 – FlangeLock Restrained, CamLock — CamLock cam-action restraint for applications requiring additional restraint force on large-diameter or high-pressure connections

Standard Flanged Coupling Adapters — Styles 912, 913, 921

Standard (non-restrained) flanged coupling adapters are used where external restraint is provided by concrete thrust blocking, tie rods, or a restrained pipe system. They offer the lowest installed cost per connection and are appropriate for most in-ground valve, meter, and pump connections in gravity or low-velocity systems.

• Style 912 – Flanged Coupling Adapter, Steel — standard carbon steel body and follower; for general waterworks and industrial applications; available in sizes 2" through 24" and larger on request
• Style 913 – Flanged Coupling Adapter — alternative construction for specific OD ranges and pipe materials; consult for exact configuration
• Style 921 – Top Bolt Flanged Coupling Adapter — top-bolt design with patented removable gasket system for large-diameter pipe; eliminates the need to rotate the adapter during installation; suitable for connections in confined excavations or valve vaults

Reducing Flanged Coupling Adapters — Style 914

Style 914 is a reducing flanged coupling adapter that connects a plain-end pipe of one size to a flanged fitting or valve of a different nominal size — a single unit eliminates a pipe reducer and a separate FCA. Commonly used when connecting a 12" main to a 10" butterfly valve or a 16" distribution main to a 12" pump suction flange. Specify both the pipe OD and the flange size when ordering.

Flange Drilling & Gasket Standards

All Smith-Blair flanged coupling adapters are furnished standard with 125/150 lb ANSI B16.1 flange drilling unless otherwise specified. For 250 lb or 300 lb ANSI drilling, specify at time of order. Gaskets are furnished as standard rubber full-face. For EPDM, Buna-N, or Neoprene gasket compounds required by specific water quality or temperature conditions, specify at time of order.
