Description
The Smith-Blair Style 920 Flange-Lock is a restrained flanged coupling adapter (restrained FCA) for PVC pipe: it connects and restrains plain-end PVC to flanged fittings, valves, meters and other flanged equipment. The fabricated steel flange adapter has an AWWA C207 Class D flange on one end and an MJ end on the other. A Cam-Lock follower gland with red single-tooth wedges, made for PVC, grips the pipe while a standard MJ gasket seals it.
The flange size equals the nominal size: a 6 in adapter has a 6 in flange. In 4 to 12 in, the wide-range builds (part numbers ending -100) use a Multi-Seal gasket and fit both PVC ODs of that size, for example 4.50-4.80 in; the other builds fit one OD. Choose the nominal size and OD in the first option; the part number follows.
Application: connecting and restraining plain-end PVC pipe to flanged fittings, valves, meters and equipment, 3 to 36 in.

Included: the epoxy-coated adapter body (carbon steel sleeve with Class D end flange and MJ flange), the Cam-Lock restraint gland with red wedges and breakaway nuts, an SBR MJ gasket (Multi-Seal on -100 builds), and the T-bolts and nuts for the MJ end.
Flange gasket and flange bolts, ordered separately. The Smith-Blair kit covers the MJ end (MJ gasket and T-bolts); the gasket and bolts for the flange joint are sized to your companion flange. Ask us to quote them with the adapter.

12-Month Smith-Blair Warranty
Smith-Blair warrants its products to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of shipment by Smith-Blair. Dated proof of purchase, such as a bill of sale, is required to establish eligibility. Smith-Blair will repair or, at its option, replace a defective product; the product is returned to the factory or warehouse Smith-Blair designates.
Working Pressure
Up to 175 PSI with the standard AWWA C207 Class D flange, and never above the pressure rating of the PVC pipe. The rating steps down as diameter rises; for any installation it also depends on the pipe, service conditions and workmanship.

Pipe Applications
PVC pipe to AWWA C900/C905 at ductile iron ODs, 3 to 36 in, and to ASTM D2241 at IPS ODs, 3 to 12 in, in SDR 26 or heavier wall. The red wedges are for PVC only; for ductile iron or steel pipe, use the Style 911. Not for use on plain-end fittings.

Per gland, reached at minimum pipe insertion. Make any deflection after the joint is assembled and before the T-bolts are tightened. Where Smith-Blair documents differ, the lower figure is shown.
Installation Notes
- Bolt the adapter body to the companion flange first.
- Wedges can shift in transit: before sliding the gland on, hand-tighten the torque-off nuts counterclockwise until the wedges seat firmly against the gland.
- Clean, inspect and lubricate the pipe end, MJ socket and gasket. Put the gland on the pipe with its lip toward the plain end, then the gasket with its taper toward the plain end.
- Insert the pipe at least 3 in past the MJ flange face and keep the joint straight. Make any deflection now, then tighten the AWWA C111 T-bolts evenly in an alternating pattern to the torque in the instructions.
- Set the wedges: hand-tighten the torque-off nuts clockwise until every wedge touches the pipe, then turn each 1/2 turn in an alternating pattern until all twist off. Do not remove the retaining washer under the torque-off nut.
- Flange-Lock 920 is limited to SDR 26 or heavier pipe wall. Use red wedges on PVC only, never black. Not for use on plain-end fittings. For removal and re-assembly, use the 5/8 in hex left after the nuts twist off.
