A CR service kit is the wear set for a Grundfos vertical multistage pump. Two kits cover the platform: the shaft seal kit, which is the cartridge seal and its sleeve, and the gasket kit, which is the static elastomer set that goes back in when the pump is opened up. Each comes in two elastomers and two size groups — the 1s, 1, 3 and 5 frames, and the 10, 15 and 20 frames.

Quick rule. Seal leaking and nothing else wrong: the shaft seal kit on its own. Pump coming apart for any reason: both. The gasket kit is cheap insurance against a second strip-down, and a compressed gasket rarely seals the same way twice.

Order against the pump you have, not the pump you are replacing it with. The nameplate carries the model and the seal code; send us both and we will confirm the kit.

Identify Your Kit

Three things off the nameplate. There are only eight kits, so the answer falls out quickly.

1. Which kit do you need. A seal that weeps or drips at the shaft is the shaft seal kit. A pump that is coming apart for any other reason wants the gasket kit as well, because the static seals get disturbed the moment the chambers are separated.

2. Which size group. The frame is the first number in the model. CR 3-4 is the 3 frame, so it takes the kit for the 1s, 1, 3 and 5 group. CR 10-6 is the 10 frame and takes the 10, 15 and 20 group. There is no overlap and no universal kit.

3. Which elastomer. The last letter of the seal code on the nameplate is the elastomer — E is EPDM, V is FKM (Viton). So an HQQE pump takes the HQQE seal kit and the EPDM gasket kit. If you are pumping water it will almost always be E. Match what is in the pump unless the liquid has changed.

If the nameplate is unreadable. Send us a photograph of the pump, the duty point and anything legible off the motor. The frame is usually identifiable from the chamber stack and the port size even when the plate has gone.

Cartridge design

The seal arrives as one unit with the faces set at the factory. Nothing is lapped or measured on site, which is why a seal change on this platform is quick.

Silicon carbide faces

Both seal codes run silicon carbide against silicon carbide. The difference between HQQE and HQQV is the elastomer, not the faces.

Two elastomers

EPDM for water and most utility duty, FKM where the liquid or the temperature rules EPDM out. The nameplate tells you which the pump was built with.

Two size groups, no overlap

One kit covers the 1s, 1, 3 and 5 frames, the other covers 10, 15 and 20. A kit from the wrong group will not fit.

What is the difference between HQQE and HQQV?

The elastomer. Both are cartridge seals with silicon carbide faces. E is EPDM, V is FKM (Viton). For water, E. Match what is already in the pump unless the liquid has changed.

Do the same kits fit CR, CRI and CRN?

Yes. The material grade of the pump housing does not change the wear set, so one kit per size group and elastomer serves all three ranges.

Can I use an EPDM kit in a pump built with FKM?

It will fit, but it changes what the pump can handle. FKM is specified where EPDM is not suitable for the liquid or the temperature. Do not downgrade the elastomer without checking the duty with us.

When should I buy a pump end instead of a kit?

When the chambers or impellers are worn rather than the seals. A wear set restores sealing, not hydraulic performance. If the pump has lost head it is not a kit problem.

Can you tell me the kit from a photograph?
