Dresser Gasket — Grade 365 Graphite Fiber | High Temperature Gasket for Dresser Couplings

1200°F Maximum | Fly Ash Handling | Abrasive Industrial Service | Asbestos Replacement | Pure Graphite / Fiberglass Construction

Overview

The Dresser Grade 365 Graphite Fiber High Temperature Gasket is a braided flexible sealing element engineered specifically for extreme-temperature pipeline and industrial process applications where rubber gaskets of any compound are inadequate. Rated to 1200°F (649°C), the Grade 365 gasket was developed as a direct asbestos replacement for high-temperature coupling applications — primarily fly ash handling, power generation boiler systems, and other elevated-temperature industrial conveyance services where the original asbestos gaskets that once sealed these systems have long been banned from use.

The construction is fundamentally different from all other Dresser gaskets. Rather than a molded rubber compound, the Grade 365 is fabricated from pure homogeneous graphite bonded to a fiberglass carrier. The fiberglass provides structural strength and thermal durability; the graphite provides the sealing interface. The gasket is manufactured using a braid-over-braid construction, die-formed and cut to the exact coupling length — producing a uniform cross-section tolerance that ensures consistent sealing performance across every joint in high-temperature systems. The end result is a reliable, long-proven asbestos replacement that handles extreme thermal environments that no rubber compound can survive.

? NON-RESILIENT CONSTRUCTION — SEAL CHARACTERISTICS DIFFER FROM RUBBER GASKETS: The Grade 365 graphite fiber gasket is non-resilient. Unlike rubber gaskets, it does not spring back after compression. This non-resilient characteristic may result in a non-leak-proof seal in some applications. This limitation must be considered when specifying the Grade 365 for your application — consult Dresser engineering for guidance on whether Grade 365 is appropriate for your specific service conditions.

Typical Applications

  • Fly Ash Handling Systems: Power plant fly ash conveyance lines operating at temperatures far above rubber gasket limits. The Grade 365 was specifically designed for this service and is the industry standard for fly ash pipeline couplings.
  • High-Temperature Gas and Process Pipelines: Wherever process gas or fluid temperature exceeds the 350°F maximum of Grade 224 Fluorocarbon (Viton) gaskets and a Dresser bolted coupling is the specified joint type.
  • Steam Lines and Boiler Piping: Saturated and superheated steam service where temperature demands exceed the 300°F limit of EPDM (Grade 199) gaskets.
  • Industrial Furnace and Kiln Piping: Above-grade piping serving high-temperature industrial processes where thermal cycling and abrasive gas service are constant.
  • Asbestos Replacement in Existing Installations: Direct replacement for original asbestos gaskets in older Dresser couplings on legacy high-temperature industrial pipelines.

Key Features

  • 1200°F Maximum Operating Temperature: The highest temperature rating of any Dresser gasket compound — enables the use of Dresser bolted couplings in extreme-temperature service that is completely outside the capability of any rubber gasket grade.
  • Pure Graphite / Fiberglass Construction: No rubber, no organic binders. Graphite provides the sealing face; fiberglass provides structural integrity and thermal durability throughout the temperature range.
  • Braid-Over-Braid Manufacturing: Die-formed braid-over-braid construction is cut to length for each coupling configuration — maintaining a uniform cross-section tolerance for consistent installation and sealing geometry.
  • Proven Asbestos Replacement: Developed specifically to replace asbestos gaskets in existing high-temperature pipeline coupling installations. The same coupling bodies — no coupling hardware change required.
  • Abrasive Service Tolerance: Designed for the high-temperature and abrasive atmospheres of fly ash handling systems, where rubber gaskets would be rapidly destroyed by thermal degradation and mechanical abrasion.
  • Limited Sealing Note: Non-resilient construction — does not spring back after compression set. May not seal perfectly in all applications. Consult Dresser engineering before specifying for critical sealed-pressure service at temperature extremes.
