Why Australian Standards Matter
BUILT BEYOND US CODE
The US baseline is NSF/ANSI 61 — solid, but it primarily governs which materials are permissible. It does not mandate the engineering margins, thermal performance protocols, or failure-mode testing that Australian standards require.
Australia's AS/NZS 4020 requires extraction testing at elevated temperatures (23°C and 85°C), extended contact times, direct taste and odor panel testing, and a mutagenicity screen (Ames test) that NSF/ANSI 61 does not require. Davey products certified to both represent the highest assurance tier available.
Davey specifies IP55 ingress protection — full dust exclusion and water jet resistance. Most US-market pumps carry IP44 or no IP rating. In a Houston utility room or outdoor installation, that delta is measured in service years. Add ISO 9001 + ISO 14001 manufacturing credentials and the premium earns itself.
