Grundfos CUE 100 Constant Pressure Well Pump Packages

Grundfos CUE 100 Constant Pressure Well Pump Packages

City-water pressure from a private well, ordered as one part number. Every Grundfos 4 in CUE 100 package pairs a 100 percent stainless steel SP pump end, a matched three-phase submersible motor, and the CUE 100 variable frequency drive with its pressure transducer — sized against each other at the factory, so there is no compatibility homework and no three components to reconcile by hand.

The drive is what changes the experience. A conventional well pump has one speed: full on. Pressure climbs to cut-out, the pump stops, the tank drains, pressure sags to cut-in, and everyone in the shower feels every step of that 15 to 20 psi sawtooth. A CUE 100 reads the transducer and varies pump speed continuously to hold one setpoint — one faucet or four irrigation zones, the gauge does not move. It also takes ordinary 200-240 V single-phase service and generates three phase for the motor, so you get a three-phase submersible with no utility upgrade and no phase converter. There is no control box to size, no starter to calibrate, and the pressure tank shrinks from a drawdown reservoir to a small buffer.

Fifteen packages across four flow families — 10, 16, 25 and 35 GPM — at 1 to 3 HP, with nominal head reaching 716 ft on the deepest 10S model. The pump end is certified to NSF/ANSI 61 and 372 for potable water, and the drive enclosure is NEMA 4X for outdoor wellhead mounting. Send us your well depth, pumping water level, required flow and delivery pressure and we will size it against the pump curve — or tell you when a different line fits better.

Constant Pressure Well Packages

Complete constant-pressure well systems: a stainless steel SP pump end, a three-phase submersible motor and a CUE 100 variable-frequency drive with transducer, in one order number. Single-phase supply in, three phase to the motor, constant pressure out. Call 1-888.510.4036 and we will size it for you.

Grundfos builds the SP submersible pump range in 100 percent stainless steel, and the CUE 100 is its constant-pressure drive for 4 in three-phase submersibles. A 4 in CUE 100 package brings the two together with a matched motor, so the whole electrical and hydraulic core of a constant-pressure well system arrives under one order number.

We supply these packages in their U.S. 60 Hz, 200-240 V single-phase configuration, and we will size one for your well against your pumping water level, delivery pressure and piping losses. Compare the flow families below, or call 1-888.510.4036 and we will size it for you. Genuine Grundfos equipment, factory-new in original packaging — sold and supported by Watermain Supply, an independent industrial supplier.

What Is A Constant-Pressure Well Package?

If you are replacing a conventional well pump and pressure tank, this is what changes.

A conventional submersible well pump has one speed: full on. Pressure climbs to the cut-out setting, the pump stops, the pressure tank drains, pressure sags to cut-in, and the pump slams back on. Everyone in the shower feels every step of that 15 to 20 psi sawtooth, and the hard across-the-line start is the most punishing moment in a submersible motor’s life.

A constant-pressure well pump system replaces the pressure switch with a variable frequency drive. The drive reads a pressure transducer on the discharge line and varies pump speed continuously to hold one setpoint — one faucet or four irrigation zones, the gauge does not move. Starts become programmed ramps instead of slams, energy tracks demand instead of running flat out, and the pressure tank shrinks from a drawdown reservoir to a small captive-air buffer.

A package means the three components arrive matched under one order number: the submersible pump end, the motor sized to it, and the drive sized to the motor. Every part of that matching — drive output current to motor amps, motor horsepower to pump-end stages — is done at the factory instead of on your desk. The Grundfos 4 in CUE 100 packages on this page are one route; the Baker AutoPAC packages are the other, and the two are compared further down.

Already have a healthy pump and motor? Buy the drive alone rather than a package. A package earns its money on new installations and full replacements, where the factory matching is the point. Paying for a pump and motor you do not need inverts the economics.

Comparing The Flow Families

The flow family is the first decision; the model within it sets how deep a well it holds that flow in.

Family Rated flow Flow range Nominal head span Motor Discharge Sizes
10S CUE 100 10 GPM 5–14 GPM 309–716 ft 1–3 HP 1-1/4 in NPT 4
16S CUE 100 16 GPM 10–20 GPM 223–533 ft 1–3 HP 1-1/4 in NPT 4
25S CUE 100 25 GPM 18–32 GPM 146–314 ft 1–3 HP 1-1/2 in NPT 4
35S CUE 100 35 GPM 126–233 ft 1-1/2–3 HP 1-1/2 in NPT 3
Quick rule. Choose the flow family for your peak demand at design pressure, not the maximum flow on the label — the GPM number is nominal. Then step up a model if your duty point lands past 70 percent of that model’s maximum head.

Rated Performance

Documented duty points from the Grundfos SP easy-selection charts, U.S. 60 Hz. Gallons per minute at 40 psi and the depth to pumping water level shown; ratings are at full speed and a CUE 100 runs slower to hold constant pressure.

Model Motor 40 psi at 100 ft 40 psi at 200 ft Max shut-off
10S15-21 1-1/2 HP 14.1 GPM 12.2 GPM 237 psi
16S15-14 1-1/2 HP 19.8 GPM 15.0 GPM 167 psi
25S20-11 2 HP 28.2 GPM 11.4 GPM 135 psi
25S30-15 3 HP 32.8 GPM 26.0 GPM 170 psi

Boost in psi equals head in feet multiplied by 0.433. The 35S family has no published easy-selection chart — request the Grundfos SP pump curve for those models. Figures are approximate; confirm against the current Grundfos SP data booklet.

Sizing & Best Practices

How we size a package, and what to check before installing.

1. Calculate the total head

Total head = depth to pumping water level at your maximum draw + the pressure you want converted to feet (psi × 2.31) + above-grade lift + friction loss in the drop pipe and discharge line. Size the pump end so its head at your flow clears that number. Example: a 200 ft pumping level plus 50 psi (116 ft) plus 20 ft of lift and friction is about 336 ft of head — a 10S15-21 or 16S15-14 territory.

2. Estimate peak flow honestly

Use WSFU / Hunter’s curve (IPC Table 604.3) for residential demand and the IAPMO Water Demand Calculator for light commercial. A typical single-family home peaks around 8–12 GPM; match that to the 10S or 16S family rather than the flow on the label.

3. Check the well and the limits

Minimum well casing or sleeve diameter is 4 in. The motor must sit at least 3 ft below maximum drawdown, above the well screen, and clear of the well bottom. Liquid temperature above 86 °F requires at least 0.25 fps and 1.2 GPM of flow past the motor, which usually means a flow sleeve.

Sizing rule of thumb. If your duty point lands past 70 percent of a model’s maximum head at design flow, step up a model. It runs cooler, quieter and closer to its best efficiency.

Which CUE 100 Package Do You Need?

Selection by application; call with your well depth, fixture count and required flow for an engineering-led pick.

Application Typical demand Recommended Notes
Single-family home, constant pressure 8–12 GPM at 50 psi 10S or 16S, 1–1.5 HP Match head to well depth plus pressure
Larger home or small farm 16–25 GPM 16S or 25S Higher flow family, size head to depth
Light-commercial or irrigation 25–35 GPM 25S or 35S 35S has no easy-selection chart — size from the pump curve
Deep well, moderate flow 10–16 GPM, 400–700 ft 10S30-34 or 16S30-24 3 HP models reach the deepest settings

What Makes A CUE 100 Package Different

Why a variable-frequency package beats a fixed-speed pump on a pressure switch.

Single-phase in, three phase out

The CUE 100 takes ordinary 200-240 V single-phase service and delivers three phase to the motor. You get a three-phase submersible — and its efficiency and starting behaviour — with no three-phase service to bring in.

True constant pressure

The drive varies pump speed against a transducer reading to hold your setpoint from a trickle to full flow, instead of cycling between two pressure-switch settings. Pressure does not sag when a second fixture opens.

Transducer included

The pressure transducer ships with the CUE 100 drive. There is nothing extra to specify to get constant-pressure control working.

NEMA 4X outdoor drive

The drive enclosure is rated NEMA 4X / IP66, so it mounts at the wellhead without a shelter.

100 percent stainless pump end

The SP pump end is stainless steel inside and outside, sand resistant and resistant to aggressive water, with water-lubricated bearings that let sand pass through rather than grind.

NSF 61 and 372 certified

The pump end is certified to NSF/ANSI 61 and NSF/ANSI 372 for potable water (MH26400), and the MS4000C motor holds IAPMO File 6591.

One order number

Pump end, motor and drive arrive matched under a single eight-digit package number — no separate part sourcing and no mismatched components.

Priming screw and check valve

Every 4 in radial-impeller pump carries a priming screw that keeps the bearings lubricated, and a spring-assisted check valve with a short closing time that keeps water hammer to a minimum.

Grundfos CUE 100 vs Baker AutoPAC

We stock both constant-pressure package lines, so we can be straight about which one fits. They solve the same problem by different routes — the deciding factors are flow class, horsepower reach, and how the motor is wired.

Specification Grundfos 4 in CUE 100 Baker AutoPAC
Pump end Grundfos SP, 100 percent stainless steel Baker 23000 domestic stainless or 24000 stainless
Drive CUE 100 variable frequency drive AutoDRIVE SD1 single phase or SD3 three phase
Supply power 200-240 V single phase 230 V single phase, every configuration
Motor type Three phase only, generated by the drive Two-wire, three-wire single phase, or three-wire three phase
Flow classes 4 — 10, 16, 25 and 35 GPM 11 — 5 through 80 GPM
Horsepower range 1 to 3 HP 1/2 to 5 HP
Packages offered 15 17
Pressure control Transducer, included Switch (APS, roughly ±2-3 psi) or transducer (APT, near ±0.5 psi)
Drive enclosure NEMA 4X / IP66 NEMA 3R outdoor steel, powder coated
Deep-well head To 716 ft nominal on the 10S family Varies by class and HP — size from the curve
Discharge 1-1/4 in NPT (1-1/2 in on 25S and 35S) 1-1/4 in typical; 2 in on the 80 GPM class
Potable-water listing NSF/ANSI 61 and 372 on the pump end Stainless pump platforms; confirm listing by model
Control box or starter Not required — the drive replaces both Not required — the drive replaces both
Pressure tank Small buffer tank only Small buffer tank only

Both lines run a three-phase submersible from ordinary single-phase service — the drive generates the three phase internally, so neither needs a utility upgrade or a phase converter. AutoDRIVE specifications from Baker published data; Grundfos figures from U.S. 60 Hz literature. Confirm both against current manufacturer documentation before specifying.

Flow class coverage, side by side

40 to 80 GPM — not offered G-40, S-55, Q-60, T-80 High Flow

Choose the CUE 100 when

The well is deep and the head requirement is the hard part, the water is aggressive enough that a 100 percent stainless SP pump end earns its keep, the drive has to survive a corrosive or washdown wellhead where NEMA 4X beats 3R, or an NSF/ANSI 61 and 372 listing on the pump end has to appear on a submittal.

Choose the AutoPAC when

Peak demand is under 10 GPM or over 35 GPM — the CUE 100 range simply does not go there. Also when you need 5 HP, when a two-wire motor is what the site expects, or when a pressure switch rather than a transducer is the right economy on a straightforward domestic well.

Either one works when

Demand lands between 10 and 35 GPM on a standard 4 in well at 1 to 3 HP. That is the overlap band, and the decision comes down to head at your pumping water level, wellhead environment and price. Send the well report and we will run both.

Neither, if you are retrofitting

If the existing pump and motor are healthy and you only want constant pressure, buy a standalone drive instead of a package. Grundfos CUE and the Baker AutoDRIVE are both available on their own.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we hear most on constant-pressure well packages.

Do I need a three-phase power service?

No. The CUE 100 drive takes single-phase 200-240 V and delivers three phase to the motor, so a three-phase submersible runs on a domestic single-phase supply. The 3 HP models are rated 208-230 V; the rest are 230 V.

What comes in the package?

A 4 in stainless steel SP pump end, a 4 in three-phase submersible motor, and a CUE 100 variable-frequency drive with its pressure transducer. A pressure tank, drop pipe, field cable and site fittings are additional.

Is the pressure transducer included?

Yes. The transducer is supplied with the CUE 100 drive; there is nothing extra to specify for constant-pressure control.

What does the flow-family number mean?

10, 16, 25 and 35 GPM are nominal flow-family labels, not a guaranteed output at every depth or pressure. Size each installation from the pump curve against your pumping water level, delivery pressure and piping losses.

What size well casing do I need?

A 4 in minimum well casing or sleeve diameter for the 4 in pump and motor.

Can the drive mount outdoors?

Yes. The CUE 100 enclosure is rated NEMA 4X / IP66 for outdoor use, so it mounts at the wellhead without a shelter. The transducer and wiring still need a sensible wellhead layout.

Are these certified for potable water?

The SP pump end is certified to NSF/ANSI 61 and NSF/ANSI 372 (MH26400). The MS4000C motor holds IAPMO File 6591.

How do I choose between 10S, 16S, 25S and 35S?

Pick the flow family that matches your peak demand, then the model within it whose head clears your pumping water level plus the pressure you want. Send us the numbers and we will size it.

How does a CUE 100 package compare with a Baker AutoPAC?

Both are factory-matched constant-pressure packages that run a submersible from single-phase service. The CUE 100 covers 10 to 35 GPM at 1 to 3 HP with a 100 percent stainless Grundfos SP pump end and a NEMA 4X drive. The Baker AutoPAC covers 5 to 80 GPM at 1/2 to 5 HP with a NEMA 3R AutoDRIVE and a choice of pressure switch or transducer control. Below 10 GPM or above 35 GPM the AutoPAC is the only one of the two that reaches; in between, size both against your well and compare.

Do I still need a pressure tank?

Only a small captive-air buffer tank, not the multi-gallon drawdown storage a cycling system needs. The drive matches demand continuously, so the tank is no longer what protects the motor from short-cycling. Ask when you quote and we will size the buffer to the package.

What if I need more than 35 GPM?

The CUE 100 range stops at the 35S family. For higher flow on a 4 in well, the Baker AutoPAC High Flow classes run 40, 55, 60 and 80 GPM at up to 5 HP. Tell us the demand and we will quote the right one.

What is not included?

A pressure tank, drop pipe, drop cable, wellhead fittings and a well seal. These are site-specific and ordered separately.

Ready to Size Your Well Package?

Send us your well depth, pumping water level, required flow and delivery pressure. We will respond with a sized selection, the accessories to complete it and lead time.
