Description

The Dresser Viton Fluorocarbon Replacement Gasket is a premium-grade sealing component for Dresser Style 38, Style 40, and Style 138 couplings. Specified where standard Buna-S (Grade 27) or Buna-N (Grade 42) gaskets are chemically incompatible, this Dresser Viton gasket delivers superior resistance to hydrocarbons, fuels, aromatic compounds, organic acids, and vegetable oils — with a maximum continuous service temperature of 350°F (177°C).

Dresser Fluorocarbon gaskets are manufactured to Dresser Utility Solutions specifications and are drop-in replacements for the factory gasket supplied with any Dresser coupling ordered with Grade 012 (Viton) sealing. Each gasket ships as a matched pair (two per coupling). Select your pipe outside diameter from the options above — available from 1 in through 24 in nominal sizes for steel, cast iron, and ductile iron pipe.

Viton® is a registered trademark of DuPont Corporation. Fluorocarbon rubber gaskets are the industry standard for piping systems carrying petroleum products, fuels, chlorinated solvents (dry), organic acids, aromatic hydrocarbons, and other aggressive media that rapidly degrade Buna rubber. If your line content includes gasoline, kerosene, jet fuel, benzene, toluene, corn oil, soybean oil, mineral spirits, or styrene — this is the correct gasket grade.

Per the Dresser Gasket and Wetted Component Combinations guide, Fluorocarbon (Viton) gaskets are the recommended choice for the following line contents:

Line Content Dresser Gasket Recommendation
Gasoline, Fuel Oil, Jet Fuel, Kerosene Fluorocarbon (Viton)
Mineral Spirits, Mineral Oil Fluorocarbon (Viton)
Corn Oil, Cottonseed Oil, Soybean Oil Grade 42 / Fluorocarbon
Benzene, Nitrobenzene, Toluene Fluorocarbon (Viton)
Chlorinated Solvents (Dry) Grade 42 / Fluorocarbon
Styrene Fluorocarbon (Viton)
Trichloroethylene Fluorocarbon (Viton)
Stearic Acid Grade 42 / Fluorocarbon
Linseed Oil, Lubricating Oil Grade 42 / Fluorocarbon
Perchloroethylene, Petroleum Ether Naptha Fluorocarbon (Viton)

Note: Fluorocarbon gaskets are not recommended for steam, hot water, strong oxidizing acids, or caustic solutions. For those applications, use Buna-S (Grade 27) or EPDM. Temperature ratings are for reference only — consult Dresser Engineering for specific pressure/temperature/chemical combinations.

Why Dresser Viton Gaskets Outperform Generic Alternatives

Dresser compounded rubber gaskets are engineered specifically to absorb pipe stress from natural forces, thermal expansion and contraction, ground movement, and vibration — properties that make a flexible, leak-proof coupling joint possible. The Viton gasket for Dresser Style 38, Style 40, and Style 138 maintains sealing pressure against the coupling followers while allowing the pipe to float within the joint, preventing stress fractures and costly service interruptions.

Generic or aftermarket gaskets may fail to meet Dresser dimensional and durometer tolerances, resulting in premature blow-out or joint weeping. Always specify genuine Dresser Fluorocarbon gaskets for warranty-compliant Dresser coupling installations.
