The building blocks behind the DAB submersible pumps. S4 pump ends run 5 to 90 GPM (0.5 to 10 HP) and fit any NEMA 4 in motor; Tesla water-filled motors come in 4 in (0.5 to 1.5 HP 2-wire, to 10 HP 3-wire) and 6 in (5.5 to 60 HP). Two-wire motors need no control box; three-wire single-phase motors use a matched 4CBUS or 6CBUS box, and CSA cable connector kits replace the lead. AISI 304 stainless, UL/CSA, VFD-ready 30 to 60 Hz, US 60 Hz. Buy to configure a pump or repair one in the field — call 1-888.510.4036 or email sales@watermainsupply.com for the right match.

Behind every DAB submersible well pump are the parts that make it: a hydraulic pump end, a water-filled Tesla motor sized to it, the control gear a three-wire motor needs, and the cable connector that ties the two together. Buying them as components lets a driller or installer configure a pump to an exact duty point, keep field spares on the truck, or repair a unit already in the ground without replacing the whole assembly.
Watermain Supply supplies the U.S. 60 Hz Tesla motor range and the full S4 pump-end family, with engineering-led selection support — give us the pump end, horsepower and service voltage and we confirm the motor, wiring and control box. Call 1-888.510.4036, or see the ready-to-drop complete pumps in the companion Submersible Well Pumps collection.

Read the pump-end horsepower off the DAB curve for your duty point, then pick a Tesla motor at that HP, or any NEMA 4 in motor of matching horsepower and thrust rating.
Matching a Pump to Its Parts
Four steps from duty point to a complete, correctly wired pump.
1. Confirm the duty point. Flow and total dynamic head; read the pump-end horsepower off the DAB curve for that duty. 2. Pick the motor. That horsepower and NEMA diameter (4 in for S4). Two-wire for the simplest install to 1.5 HP, three-wire above that or where you want field diagnosis. 3. Add the control box only for single-phase three-wire motors, sized to the exact motor HP and voltage — Plus if you want the line contactor integral. 4. Match the cable connector to the motor family, and choose the lead length for your setting depth.
What Makes These Components Different
The engineering shared across the Tesla motors and S4 ends.
AISI 304 Stainless
Canned stator with AISI 304L flanges and shell; wetted parts protected against corrosion.
Kingsbury Thrust Bearing
Cooled and lubricated by a water and glycol mixture, built to carry axial load over a long service life.
NEMA Standard Fit
4 in and 6 in NEMA flanges pair with DAB pump ends, or any matching NEMA end from another brand.
VFD Ready
30 to 60 Hz operation on every Tesla motor, so a drive can hold constant pressure.
Built-In 2-Wire Protection
The 4TW carries its capacitor and overload internally — fewer parts to wire, fewer to fail.
Matched Control Boxes
Metal-cased 4CBUS and 6CBUS sized per horsepower; the Plus version adds an integral line contactor.
Removable Cable Connector
A CSA-certified lead swaps without pulling the motor apart, so a damaged cable is a field fix.
Field-Repair Friendly
Buy the exact end, motor, box or lead instead of a whole new pump when one part wears.

Authorized, stocked A.Y. McDonald and Baker Water Systems distributor
Where Baker wins: a US-built line with the widest motor range (to 250 HP on 10 in), a full choice of pump-end material including silicon bronze for aggressive water, large-diameter ends for municipal and agricultural flow, and a range we stock and are authorized on. Where DAB wins: a simpler, lower-cost 4 in and 6 in package for standard wells, an integrated two-wire motor that needs no control box, and components built to drop straight onto a DAB pump end.

Premium electronic protection and monitoring
Where Grundfos wins: a deeper electronic-protection and monitoring ecosystem — the MP 204 protector and CUE drives give current, voltage and dry-run protection with data logging for critical or hard-to-reach installations. Where DAB wins: a simpler, lower-cost motor-and-control package that covers standard duty, with an integrated two-wire option that removes the control box entirely. Both are imported; the choice is how much electronic protection the site justifies.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions from drillers, pump installers and engineers building or repairing a submersible pump.
Do I need a control box?
Only for single-phase three-wire motors (4GG, and 7.5 to 15 HP 6GF). Two-wire 4TW motors carry the capacitor and thermal overload inside the motor and need no box.
How do I match a pump end to a motor?
Match horsepower and NEMA diameter. A 1 HP S4 pump end takes a 1 HP 4 in motor, two-wire or three-wire. The Tesla flanges are standard NEMA, so they also fit other brands' NEMA ends.
Two-wire or three-wire?
Two-wire is the simplest install up to 1.5 HP. Three-wire suits higher horsepower and gives easier field diagnosis and restart, but needs a control box on single phase.
115V, 230V or 460V?
115V is 0.5 HP only. 230V covers most single-phase duty; 460V three phase suits larger horsepower and long cable runs and needs user-supplied overload protection.
Which cable connector kit?
A 3x14 AWG kit for the 4TW, a 4x14 AWG kit for the 4GG, in 6, 9 or 11 ft. They are not interchangeable.
Basic or Plus control box?
Plus contains a magnetic line contactor matched to the motor, removing the need for an external contactor. Basic is the capacitor-and-overload box.
Can I use a DAB motor on another brand pump end?
Yes — the Tesla motors use a standard NEMA 4 in or 6 in flange, so they fit any matching NEMA end. Confirm horsepower and thrust rating.
How does DAB motor protection compare to Grundfos?
Grundfos offers the MP 204 electronic protector and CUE drives for current, voltage and dry-run protection with data logging. DAB relies on built-in two-wire protection or a matched control box — simpler and lower cost for standard duty.
How does DAB compare to A.Y. McDonald / Baker?
Baker is US-built with the widest motor range to 250 HP and a full choice of pump-end material; DAB is a lower-cost 4 in and 6 in package for standard wells, and it is the line built to drop straight onto a DAB pump end.
Are the motors drinking-water rated?
The Tesla motors are UL and CSA listed; pair them with an NSF/ANSI 61 pump end for potable service.
