Galvanized Compression Fittings | Grade 27 BUNA-S Armored Standard | Steel Pipe | Max 150°F | Up to 2 in Nom.
Overview
The Dresser Style 65 Gasket is the factory-specified replacement sealing element for Dresser Style 65 Galvanized Compression Fittings — the small-diameter coupling and fitting system that has been used in natural gas distribution, industrial piping, and residential mechanical systems since Dresser introduced the compression fitting principle in 1891. The Style 65 gasket is unique among Dresser gaskets in that Grade 27 BUNA-S Armored is supplied as standard with all Style 65 fittings (not plain BUNA-S), with Grade 42 Armored available for oil and hydrocarbon service on request.
The Style 65 system installs on plain-end pipe — no threading, flaring, or soldering required. The compression gasket is compressed around the pipe OD by the end nut and the fitting body taper, producing a flexible, vibration-absorbing, leak-proof seal. Because the sealing action is on the pipe OD rather than at a threaded connection, the full pipe wall thickness is maintained at every joint — threading removes approximately 40% of pipe wall thickness, which the Style 65 system entirely avoids. Style 65 is available as couplings, 90° ells, and male and female adapters in regular and long body configurations.
? TEMPERATURE LIMIT — 150°F MAXIMUM: Style 65 galvanized compression fittings and their gaskets must not be used at temperatures above 150°F. For higher-temperature applications, consult Dresser for alternative coupling styles with EPDM or other high-temperature gasket compounds.
What Is the Dresser Style 65 Compression Fitting?
The Dresser Style 65 is a galvanized compression coupling and fitting system for plain-end steel pipe up to 2 in nominal pipe size. Fitting bodies are constructed of malleable iron (conforming to ANSI specifications for 150 PSI rated fittings) or steel, with galvanized finish as standard. The system employs the same wedge-compression gasket sealing principle used in Dresser's full-size bolted couplings — the end nut compresses the gasket against the pipe OD and the fitting body taper simultaneously as the nut is tightened, producing a double-sealing action that requires no sealant, no thread compound, and no flare. The fitting ships assembled and ready to install; loosen the end nuts, stab pipe into both ends, and tighten — no special tools required.
