If you're running a Baker three-wire submersible motor, the control box is the above-ground brain of the system — it houses the starting capacitors, run capacitors, and overload protection that get your motor spinning and keep it protected throughout its service life. Unlike two-wire motors that have controls built in, three-wire configurations place these critical components in an accessible surface-mounted enclosure where they can be inspected, serviced, or replaced without pulling the pump. Baker offers a complete line of control boxes sized and factory-matched to their three-wire single-phase submersible motors, ensuring the capacitor values, overload ratings, and contactor specifications are exactly right for your motor's electrical requirements.
Baker's 4-inch control box lineup comes in three tiers. Standard control boxes cover 1/2 HP through 1 HP motors with a compact metal enclosure and capacitor-start design — the right fit for most basic residential well installations. For motors from 1-1/2 HP through 5 HP, the Standard CSCR (Capacitor Start, Capacitor Run) boxes add a run capacitor that improves motor efficiency and performance during continuous operation. The Deluxe line covers the full range from 1/2 HP through 5 HP and adds a magnetic line contactor on top of the capacitor start and capacitor run components, providing an extra layer of motor protection through positive electrical switching — a worthwhile upgrade for installations where the pump cycles frequently or where maximum motor longevity matters. For larger 6-inch single-phase motors from 7-1/2 HP through 15 HP, Baker offers Deluxe control boxes with the full contactor, capacitor start, and capacitor run configuration in a larger NEMA-rated enclosure. All Baker control boxes feature metal casings, auxiliary contacts for control by probes, and thermal protection with external manual reset.
For three-phase motor installations, Baker offers IEC Starter Kits rather than control boxes. Each starter kit ships as a complete assembly with a NEMA 1 enclosure, contactor, and overload sized to your motor, available in 230V, 460V, and 575V coil configurations covering motors from 1/2 HP all the way up to 75 HP. As an authorized Baker dealer, Watermain Supply can help you match the correct control box or starter kit to your specific motor — getting this match wrong is one of the most common causes of premature motor failure, so reach out if you're unsure which unit your installation requires.
