Dresser Style 360 All-Around Repair Clamp

Fast Repair of Leaks, Breaks & Splits in Cast Iron, Ductile Iron & Steel Mains

Overview

The Dresser Style 360™ All-Around Repair Clamp is a full-circle, band-type repair device engineered for rapid, reliable sealing of leaks, holes, breaks, and splits in water distribution mains constructed of cast iron, ductile iron, and steel pipe. Designed for in-the-ditch installation, it requires no specialty tools — just wrap the stainless steel band around the damaged pipe, drop the Dresserloy bolts into the ductile iron lugs, and tighten with a standard deep socket wrench.

The one-inch long nuts are a key design feature, allowing full tightening with a standard deep socket — no modified or proprietary tools required in the field. The drop-in bolt design means no bolts to remove beforehand and no loose parts to lose in the excavation. For sizes 14 in through 30 in, Dresser uses a multi-band design that ships flat ("in the flat"), cutting both storage space and installation time while providing twice the adjustment range of a single-band clamp.

Beyond repair, the Style 360 can be used to join two pipe sections where ends are separated or deflected up to 4 degrees or 1/8 inch, or where the OD difference between the two pipes is no more than ¼ inch — making it a versatile field tool for conditions where a standard mechanical coupling cannot be used.

Key Features

  • One-Inch Long Nuts: Allows complete tightening with a standard deep socket wrench — no specialty tools required in the field.
  • Drop-In Bolts — No Loose Parts: Bolts are captured in the lug assembly. No removal required before installation; nothing to drop or lose in the ditch.
  • Multi-Band Clamp (14 in–30 in): Ships "in the flat" — bands are not pre-formed to the pipe radius. Reduces storage space, cuts installation time, and provides twice the adjustment range of a single-band clamp.
  • Third Bolt for Pre-Tightening (7.5 in Width): Smaller band widths include a third bolt so the middle bolt can be used to pre-seat the clamp before final tightening — simplifying installation and ensuring even gasket compression.
  • Tapered Gasket with Gridded Design: Proprietary Dresser gasket provides uniform sealing pressure around the pipe circumference. Spanner is molded flush with the gasket to prevent hang-up during installation.
  • AISI 304 Stainless Steel Band: Corrosion-resistant band ensures long service life in buried service and aggressive soil environments.
  • Ductile Iron Lugs: High-strength lugs resist torque loads during tightening and maintain structural integrity under internal pressure.
  • Dresserloy™ Fasteners: Dresser's proprietary corrosion-resistant alloy bolts and nuts — superior to standard carbon steel hardware in buried service.
  • Optional Stainless Steel Fasteners: Available upon request for highly corrosive service conditions.
  • Wide Size Coverage: Available from 2 in through 30 in nominal pipe size. Multiple clamp widths (7.5 in, 12.5 in, 20 in, 30 in) available per size.

Clamp Width Selection Guide

Band Width Typical Use Case Notes
7.5 in Standard pinholes and small splits on 2 in–12 in pipe Includes third bolt for pre-tightening on small sizes
12.5 in Moderate damage, larger splits, or where extra gasket coverage is needed Standard bolt pattern
20 in Large damage areas or longer splits on medium-to-large pipe Standard bolt pattern
30 in Maximum coverage for 8 in and larger pipe with extensive damage Required by some utilities on transmission mains

Installation Instructions

  1. Verify OD Range: Confirm the pipe outside diameter falls within the Range of Fit for the selected clamp. Measure at the repair location — aged cast iron and ductile iron may vary from nominal values.
  2. Excavate & Clean Pipe: Expose sufficient pipe length to center the clamp over the damage. Clean all dirt, scale, and debris from the gasket contact area. Note significant surface pitting or longitudinal grooves — a wider band width may be required.
  3. Wrap Clamp Around Pipe: Wrap the stainless steel band around the pipe, centering the gasket directly over the damaged area. For multi-band sizes (14 in–30 in), form the bands around the pipe in the ditch — they ship flat and are not pre-curved.
  4. Drop In Bolts: Drop the Dresserloy bolts into the lug slots. No bolt removal is required. The captured bolt design prevents rotation and eliminates loose parts in the excavation. Install hex nuts finger tight.
  5. Tighten with Deep Socket Wrench: Use a standard deep socket wrench on the 1-inch long nuts. For 7.5 in band widths on smaller pipe, use the middle bolt first to pre-seat and center the gasket, then tighten all bolts alternately in a cross pattern. Draw up evenly to ensure uniform gasket compression around the full pipe circumference.
  6. Inspect & Backfill: Before backfilling, verify all bolts are uniformly tightened. Inspect gasket edges for uniform seating — no rollout or voids should be visible. On pressurized mains, confirm the leak has stopped and no seepage is present at the gasket edges.

? Pipe End Joining: The Style 360 can be used to join two pipe sections where ends are separated, deflected up to 4° or 1/8 inch, or where the OD difference between pipes is no greater than ¼ inch. Ensure the pipe joint is anchored where pullout forces may be present.
