A jet pump is the shallow-water tool. It mounts above ground and draws water up by suction, so it is the right choice when the water level is within reach — roughly 25 ft of the surface for a shallow-well unit. It is self-priming and tolerates some air in the suction line, which makes it forgiving on shallow wells, cisterns and tanks, and easy to service because the pump sits where you can reach it.

How a Jet Pump Works

A Venturi and impeller create suction at the pump, pulling water up from below. Because it lifts by suction, atmospheric pressure caps the depth — in practice about 25 to 29 ft for a shallow-well pump.

Sizing a Shallow-Well Jet Pump

Three checks, in order.

1. Check suction lift first. Measure the vertical distance from the pump to the lowest water level. It must stay within 29 ft; a long horizontal run adds friction that eats into that budget. If you cannot meet it, you need a deep-well or submersible pump — stop here.
2. Set peak flow. Size household demand with the WSFU / Hunter-curve method (IPC Table 604.3); use the IAPMO Water Demand Calculator for light commercial.
3. Pick the horsepower. The 2 HP 200-PS holds more pressure at a given flow than the 1.5 HP 150-PS. Confirm your duty point on the DAB curve, and keep it below roughly 70 percent of the maximum head at your design flow.

Elevation costs about 0.433 psi per foot of lift, and every psi of tank pressure is 2.31 ft of head. A jet pump's suction limit is a hard physical ceiling — no horsepower overcomes a water level beyond ~25 ft.

Jet pump or submersible?

If the water level is within about 25 ft of the surface, a jet pump works and installs above ground where it is easy to service. Deeper than that, choose a deep-well convertible jet or a submersible pump.

How deep can the DAB JET lift?

Up to 29 ft of suction lift. A long horizontal run adds friction that reduces the usable lift, so keep the pump close to the water.

Can the DAB JET do a deep well?

No — it is a shallow-well pump only. For deep wells, Baker, Goulds and Franklin offer convertible or two-pipe ejector options, or use a submersible.

Does it come with a pressure switch?

Is the DAB JET certified for drinking water?

DAB does not publish an NSF/ANSI 61 mark for the JET. If a certified potable pump is required, Goulds publishes both NSF 61 and 372; Franklin publishes 372 only.

How does DAB compare to Goulds?

Goulds carries both NSF marks and a deep-well multi-stage SJ for wells beyond suction depth. DAB is a lower-cost shallow-well pump with a pressure switch fitted and a 2 HP option.

How does DAB compare to Franklin Electric?
