What Ships and What It Needs to Run
Included: the pump with its built-in ejector (nozzle and venturi in the pump housing), the Square Flange capacitor-start motor, and a pressure switch factory set to 20/40 PSI on the 1/2 HP or 30/50 PSI on the 3/4 and 1 HP models. The housing plug is tapped for a 1/4 in pressure gauge.
Pressure tank, foot valve and suction pipe: sized to your well and ordered separately. A.Y. McDonald calls for a reliable foot valve where the water is below the pump, so the pump keeps its prime. Our diaphragm tanks cover 2 to 119 gallons.
Overview
The 8500 High Capacity is A.Y. McDonald’s cast iron shallow well jet pump with a square flange motor. The ejector sits in the pump housing in front of the impeller, so a single 1 1/4 in suction line runs to the water and the pump lifts it from as much as 25 ft below.
Certified for drinking water to NSF/ANSI 61 and NSF/ANSI 372, for private wells and home water systems.
High capacity or high pressure? This High Capacity version gives more water at 20 to 50 PSI. Where the system needs a 40/60 PSI switch setting, the 8500 High Pressure holds pressure to 70 to 80 PSI at less flow.

Easily serviced — the working parts come out with the motor, so the piping stays put; nozzle clean-out and drain plugs in the housing.

Thermoplastic seal and condensation plate keeps an air gap between the motor and the water chamber; screwdriver slot on the motor shaft for impeller removal.

Single Unit
Each pump runs on its own pressure switch and tank. Size it to the household’s peak demand. Where the water is deeper than 25 ft, a convertible jet with a deep well ejector reaches 120 ft.

Where two voltages are shown, the first is the factory wiring setting. Voltage is changed with the voltage change device on the motor, never at the pressure switch, and must match your supply before power is applied. All models listed are single phase unless the table states 3Ph.

Reading it against the switch: the pump works between the cut-in and cut-out columns. On a 30/50 PSI switch, the 1 HP 8510 lifting 15 ft delivers 18.6 GPM at cut-in and 10.9 GPM as it reaches cut-out.

Before You Buy — The Limits That Decide the Fit
