Baker DuraMAC Sump Pumps: The Complete Buyer’s Guide

Every model, every option, every decision point — so you pick the right sump pump the first time.

What Is a Sump Pump?

A sump pump sits inside a sump pit (basin) in the lowest point of your basement or crawl space and removes ground water that collects there before it can flood your home. When the water level rises, a float switch activates the pump, which pushes water out through a discharge pipe to a safe distance from your foundation. It’s the single most important piece of equipment protecting your basement from water damage.

Baker’s DuraMAC sump pump lineup covers every residential scenario — from budget thermoplastic units for light-duty applications to heavy-duty cast iron pumps for high-water-table homes, plus pedestal pumps, battery backups, and pre-assembled kits.

Baker DuraMAC Sump Pump Lineup

Baker divides their sump pumps into two construction categories: thermoplastic (lighter, corrosion-proof, budget-friendly) and cast iron (heavier, better heat dissipation, longer life). All are submersible, 120V single-phase, 3,450 RPM with thermal overload protection.

Thermoplastic Sump Pumps

Model HP Max GPM Discharge Solids Cord Switch Warranty
5025PTSP ¼ 30 1¼″ or 1½″ 1/8″ 10′ Tethered 3 yr
5025PVSP ¼ 30 1¼″ or 1½″ 1/8″ 10′ Vertical 3 yr
5033PVSP ⅓ 40 1¼″ or 1½″ 1/8″ 10′ Vertical 3 yr

Cast Iron Sump Pumps

Model HP Max GPM Discharge Solids Cord Switch Warranty
5030CTSP 3/10 46 1½″ 3/8″ 10′ Tethered 5 yr
5030CVSP 3/10 46 1½″ 3/8″ 10′ Vertical 5 yr
5030CUSP 3/10 46 1½″ 3/8″ 10′ None 5 yr
5030CUSP25 3/10 46 1½″ 3/8″ 25′ None 5 yr
5033CVSP ⅓ 60 1½″ ½″ 10′ Vertical 5 yr
5033CUSP ⅓ 60 1½″ ½″ 10′ None 5 yr
5033CUSP25 ⅓ 60 1½″ ½″ 25′ None 5 yr
5050CVSP ½ 70 1½″ ½″ 10′ Vertical 5 yr
5050CUSP25 ½ 70 1½″ ½″ 25′ None 5 yr
Pro Tip

The “U” (no switch) models are for replacement installs where you already have an external float switch, or for dual-pump/alarm panel setups. Don’t buy a “U” model unless you have an external control.

Thermoplastic vs. Cast Iron — Which Construction?

Factor Thermoplastic Cast Iron
Weight 7–10 lbs 18–27 lbs
Heat Dissipation Lower — plastic insulates Higher — metal conducts heat away from motor
Corrosion Immune to rust Can corrode in aggressive water
Vibration Can “walk” in basin Stays planted due to weight
Durability Good for light duty Built for heavy, frequent cycling
Warranty 3 years 5 years
Best For Low water table, occasional pumping High water table, frequent cycling, primary home protection
Our Recommendation

If this pump is protecting a finished basement, go cast iron. The 5-year warranty and superior heat dissipation pay for the price difference many times over. Save thermoplastic for secondary or light-duty applications.

Tethered vs. Vertical Float Switch

Factor Tethered (T) Vertical (V)
How It Works Float on a tether swings up to activate Float slides up a rod to activate
Basin Size Needed 14″ minimum diameter 10″ minimum diameter
Jam Risk Can snag on pipes or walls in tight basins Rides on a track — less jamming
Best For Standard 18″ basins with room to swing Tight basins, narrow pits, pedestal replacements

Pedestal Sump Pumps

Pedestal pumps keep the motor above water on a column, with only the base and impeller submerged. The motor never gets wet, which makes them last longer in some environments — but they are not submersible and must never be submerged.

Model HP Max GPM Discharge Construction Max Temp
5033PVPD ⅓ 50 1¼″ Thermoplastic 120°F
5050CVPD ½ 60 1½″ Cast Iron 180°F
Critical

The 5050CVPD handles liquids up to 180°F, making it suitable for hot water applications where submersible pumps would overheat. But never let the motor housing go underwater.

Pre-Assembled Kits & Packages

Baker offers several ready-to-install kits that save time and ensure compatible components:

Kit Model What’s Included Best For
EZ Sump Kit 5033CVSPEZ ⅓ HP cast iron pump, check valve, discharge pipe — pre-plumbed Fast residential install
Sink/Drain System 5030CVSPK 3/10 HP pump, 6-gal basin, cover, check valve Laundry tubs, wet bars, dehumidifiers
Crawl Space Kit 5030CVSPCSK 3/10 HP pump, poly basin, 24′ hose, adaptor Crawl space dewatering
Clear Water Basin 5025PTSPCWB ¼ HP pump, 18″×24″ basin, cover, check valve, pipe New construction

Battery Backup & Guardian Water-Powered Backup

Battery Backup — 5000PVSPBU

A 12V DC thermoplastic sump pump that takes over during power failures. Works with a 12V deep-cycle marine battery (not included). Includes alarm/control unit with fuse and mute feature. Pumps up to 23 GPM at 0′ and 8 GPM at 20′. 2-year warranty.

Guardian Water-Powered Backup — 747H20

When the power goes out, the Guardian uses your municipal water supply pressure (29–90 PSI) to power a venturi-driven sump pump. No battery, no electricity needed — as long as you have city water pressure, it works. Made in the USA with brass and PVC construction. Available in standard, radon-ready, and with RPZ backflow preventer configurations.

Which Backup?

Battery backup is better for short outages (a few hours). The Guardian is better for extended outages since it runs indefinitely off water pressure. If you’re on a well (no city water), battery backup is your only option.

Tight basin or narrow pit?

Vertical switch model (V suffix) — works in basins as small as 10″

Hot water application (up to 180°F)?

Pedestal: 5050CVPD — cast iron, motor stays dry above water line

New construction, need everything in one box?

5025PTSPCWB (clear water basin package) or 5033CVSPEZ (EZ kit, pre-plumbed)

Need backup during power outages?

Short outages: 5000PVSPBU battery backup. Extended: 747H20 Guardian water-powered
