Grundfos
Grundfos 4 in and 6 in submersible motors for water wells, from a 1/2 HP domestic MS402 to the 60 HP rewindable MMS6. Single-phase 2-wire and 3-wire, three-phase, standard and 140°F high-temperature builds, each matched to the pump end, control box and lead it needs, with engineering-led selection on every order.

Grundfos MS and MMS motors drive Grundfos SP pump ends and any pump end built for a standard 4 in or 6 in motor flange. The MS402 serves the domestic groundwater market; the MS4000 and MS6000C are built for water supply duty, with a high-temperature T60 version for hot wells; the MMS6 is Grundfos’s rewindable motor for heavy-duty and industrial wells. Every MS motor has a hermetically enclosed stainless steel stator and AISI 304 stainless steel on all surfaces in contact with water.
We supply the full 4 in and 6 in range from the Grundfos 2026 price list, together with the control boxes, motor leads, nut and bolt kits and MP 204 motor protectors that complete an installation. Send us the pump end, the voltage and the well data and we will confirm the motor, control and cooling before you order. Call 1-888.510.4036. Genuine Grundfos equipment, factory-new in original packaging — sold and supported by Watermain Supply, an independent industrial supplier.
The four questions drillers and owners ask first, answered from Grundfos’s published data.
Covered for 24 months from the date of installation, but not more than 30 months from the date of manufacture, under Grundfos’s limited warranty in the SP/SPE installation and operating instructions. Three-phase motors need three-leg ambient-compensated quick-trip overloads, a recorded current-imbalance check and surge arresters to keep that warranty.
Hermetically enclosed stainless stator, so condensation cannot short the windings. Cooling chambers top and bottom circulate the motor liquid. The MS402 is insulated against lightning surges; the MS6000C runs a spring-loaded SiC/SiC seal with a sand shield; the MMS6 can be rewound.
4 in motors need a 4 in casing and 0.25 ft/s of water past the motor for 104°F water. 6 in motors need a 6 in casing: 0.50 ft/s past an MS6000C T40, 3.3 ft/s past a T60 at 140°F, 0.15 ft/s past an MMS6. Single-phase 3-wire needs a control box; three-phase needs a starter or drive.

How to repair the Grundfos MS6000C motor
Two listings cover the range. Pick the listing by well size and horsepower, then choose the HP, the voltage and phase, and the motor type in the selector.

Domestic and water supply wells
The MS402 covers 1/2 to 2 HP in single-phase 2-wire, single-phase 3-wire and three-phase builds. The MS4000 takes over from 2 to 10 HP with 1,500 lb of thrust, a ceramic/carbon seal and, on the 7-1/2 and 10 HP, the Tempcon temperature transmitter.

Water supply, irrigation and hot wells
The MS6000C runs 5 to 40 HP in standard T40 and high-temperature T60 three-phase builds, and 5 to 15 HP single-phase. The MMS6 covers 50 and 60 HP with cast-iron or 316 stainless steel end-bells and windings that can be rewound.
Four motor series, one standard each for 4 in and 6 in pump ends. The series is decided by horsepower and duty; the voltage and phase by the power at the well.

A submersible motor is chosen after the pump end. These are the checks we run on every order.
1. Horsepower and size. The pump end’s model code sets the horsepower and motor size. A Grundfos 35S50-15, for example, is a 5 HP pump end; on a 4 in motor it takes the MS4000 5 HP.
2. Thrust. The motor must carry the pump end’s down-thrust: 900 lb on the MS402, 1,500 lb on the MS4000, 6,070 lb on the MS6000C, 6,180 lb on the MMS6.
3. Power and control. Match the nameplate voltage and phase to the supply. Single-phase 3-wire motors need the matching control box; three-phase motors need a starter or drive with three-leg ambient-compensated quick-trip overloads and surge arresters.
4. Cooling. Water must flow past the motor at the Grundfos minimum for its type, or the motor needs a flow sleeve. Hot water calls for the T60.

The stator winding is hermetically enclosed in stainless steel, which gives mechanical stability, efficient cooling and no short-circuit from condensation.
Chambers at the top and bottom of the motor and internal circulation of the motor liquid keep the windings cool while the flow past the motor is maintained.
The smallest motors, such as the MS402, are insulated to minimize the risk of burnout from a lightning strike.
The MS6000C seal is spring-loaded, with a large surface and a sand shield, for minimum exchange of motor and pumped liquids and no penetration of particles.
Tempcon on the 7-1/2 and 10 HP MS4000; Pt100 or Pt1000 sensors for the MS and MMS ranges, read through an MP 204 motor protector.
MMS windings are pure electrolytic copper with a non-hygroscopic thermoplastic sheath, cooled by direct contact with the motor liquid, and can be rewound.

Common questions from drillers, pump installers and well owners choosing a Grundfos motor.
Grundfos covers its products for 24 months from the date of installation, but not more than 30 months from the date of manufacture, to the original user, under the limited warranty printed in the SP/SPE installation and operating instructions. On three-phase motors the warranty requires three-leg ambient-compensated quick-trip overloads, a recorded current-imbalance check and surge arresters, and no phase converter.
Grundfos prices its 4 in MS402 and MS4000 motors as motor and motor lead. The MS6000C lead (96164249, 198 in) is a separate part, and we confirm the MMS6 lead at order.
Only for single-phase 3-wire motors. Two-wire MS402 motors need none, and three-phase motors take a starter or drive instead. The control box for each horsepower is listed on the motor page; Grundfos sells the 1/2, 3/4 and 1 HP boxes in 10-packs.
The T40 is the standard motor for water up to 104°F with 0.50 ft/s of flow past it. The T60 high-temperature version runs in water up to 140°F with 3.3 ft/s of flow past the motor.
Grundfos MS motors fit Grundfos SP pump ends of the same size and horsepower. For another brand of pump end, send us its model and we will check the motor size and flange before you order.
Grundfos lists 0.25 ft/s for the MS402 and MS4000, 0.50 ft/s for the MS6000C T40, 3.3 ft/s for the T60 at 140°F and 0.15 ft/s for the MMS6. Where the well cannot give it, fit a flow sleeve.
For single-phase service choose a single-phase build, available to 5 HP in 4 in and to 15 HP in 6 in. The Grundfos three-phase warranty calls for true three-phase power, without a phase converter.
In 4 in, the MS4000 at 1,500 lb. In 6 in, the MMS6 at 6,180 lb and the MS6000C at 6,070 lb.
Grundfos leads on 4 in thrust, hot-water T60 builds and the rewindable MMS6. DAB Tesla states VFD operation from 30 to 60 Hz. A.Y. McDonald covers 575V service and motors from 7 to 10 in.
Send the pump end model, the well size, the voltage and phase at the well, and the water temperature. We will reply with the motor, control and accessories that complete the installation.
