Pump end required, ordered separately. A 6 in pump end matched to the motor horsepower.

Deluxe control box required for single-phase builds, ordered separately. It includes the magnetic starter; the box for each HP is in the table under Control Box by Horsepower (Grundfos SA-SPM6 3-Wire Control Box).

Magnetic starter or drive required for three-phase builds, ordered separately. Rated for the motor, with three-leg ambient-compensated quick-trip overload protection (see Before You Buy).

Drop cable and splice kit: sized to your setting depth and ordered separately.

Overview

Grundfos 6 in submersible motors for 6 in and larger wells, 37 builds from 5 to 60 HP. The MS6000C (5 to 40 HP) is built for water supply duty: standard T40 builds for water to 104°F, high-temperature T60 builds for water to 140°F, and single-phase 3-wire builds to 15 HP. The MMS6 (50 and 60 HP) is Grundfos’s rewindable motor for heavy-duty and industrial wells, with cast-iron or 316 stainless steel end-bells.

  • MS6000C: AISI 304 stainless steel external surfaces and a hermetically enclosed stator
  • MS6000C: spring-loaded SiC/SiC shaft seal with a sand shield, for minimum exchange of motor and pumped liquids
  • T60 Hi-Temp: runs in water to 140°F (60°C) with 3.3 ft/s of flow past the motor
  • MMS6: easy to rewind; pure copper windings with a non-hygroscopic thermoplastic sheath, cooled by direct contact with the motor liquid
  • Pt100/Pt1000 temperature sensors available for both series, read by an MP 204 motor protector

24-Month Grundfos Warranty

Covered for 24 months from the date of installation, but not more than 30 months from the date of manufacture. Before You Buy — The Limits That Decide the Fit
Well size 6 in minimum casing or flow-sleeve diameter
Cooling At least 0.50 ft/s (9 GPM) past an MS6000C T40, 3.3 ft/s (30 GPM) past a T60 at 140°F, and 0.15 ft/s (13 GPM) past an MMS6. Where the well cannot give that flow, use a flow sleeve
Power Supply voltage and phase to match the motor nameplate; single-phase needs the Deluxe control box, three-phase a starter or drive
Three-phase protection The Grundfos warranty on three-phase submersible motors calls for true three-phase power (no phase converter), three-leg ambient-compensated extra quick-trip overload protectors, a checked and recorded current imbalance, and high-voltage surge arresters
Drinking water Drinking water service up to 86°F (30°C)

Installation Notes
  • Check the motor liquid level before installation and top up as the instructions describe for MS6000 and MMS motors; use Grundfos liquid where frost protection is needed.
  • Set the pump at least 3 ft below the maximum drawdown level, never with the motor bottom below the top of the well screen or within 5 ft of the well bottom.
  • In a lake, pond, tank or wide well, make sure the water velocity past the motor meets the cooling minimum for the motor type.
  • Install a voltage-rated surge arrester on the supply side of the control box or starter, grounded per the NEC.
  • Check the nameplate voltage, phase and frequency against the supply, and measure insulation resistance of the cable and splice before startup.
