Baker Effluent Pumps: The Complete Buyer’s Guide

From residential septic systems to commercial wastewater — every Baker effluent pump model explained.

What Is an Effluent Pump?

An effluent pump handles partially treated wastewater — the liquid that flows out of a septic tank after solids settle. Unlike sump pumps (clear water) or sewage pumps (raw sewage with large solids), effluent pumps are designed to move liquid with small suspended particles up to ¾″ in diameter. They’re the critical link between your septic tank and your drain field, mound system, or municipal sewer connection when gravity flow isn’t possible.

Baker manufactures effluent pumps across two product families: DuraMAC (residential, ⅓–½ HP) and Wastewater (commercial-grade, 4/10–2 HP), giving you options from budget basement installs to high-head septic system applications.

Effluent vs. Sump vs. Sewage — Why It Matters

Factor Sump Pump Effluent Pump Sewage Pump
Liquid Type Clear ground water Septic effluent, gray water Raw sewage with solids
Solids Handling ⅛″–½″ ⅝″–¾″ 2″
Discharge Size 1¼″–1½″ 1½″–2″ 2″
Impeller Type Clog-resistant Vortex (non-clogging) Vortex (non-clogging)
Typical Use Basement water removal Septic systems, elevator pits Basement bathrooms, sewage ejectors
Don’t Substitute

Using a sump pump for effluent will clog it. Using an effluent pump for raw sewage will clog it. The solids-handling rating is the dividing line — match the pump to the waste stream.

DuraMAC Effluent Pumps (Residential)

Baker’s DuraMAC effluent pumps are cast iron, 120V, with stainless steel vortex impellers that handle ⅝″ solids and a 1½″ discharge. All feature PSC continuous-duty motors with thermal overload protection.

Model HP Max GPM Cord Switch Construction
5033CUEF 60 10′ None Cast Iron
5050CUEF ½ 70 10′ None Cast Iron
5050CTEF ½ 70 10′ Tethered Cast Iron
5050CTEF25 ½ 70 25′ Tethered Cast Iron
5050CVEF ½ 70 10′ Vertical Cast Iron

DuraMAC High Head Effluent Pumps

When you need to push effluent further or higher — long pipe runs to a drain field, steep elevation changes — the High Head models deliver more pressure with cast iron base and stainless steel housing. They handle ¾″ solids with a 2″ or 1½″ discharge and come with 25′ cords and a convenient carrying handle.

Model HP Max GPM Head Switch Construction
5040CTEFH25 4/10 78 Up to 30′ Tethered Cast Iron / SS
5050CUEFH25 ½ 100 Up to 50′ None Cast Iron / SS
5050CTEFH25 ½ 100 Up to 50′ Tethered Cast Iron / SS

Wastewater Effluent Pumps (Commercial-Grade)

Baker’s Wastewater line offers heavier-duty effluent pumps for septic systems, commercial developments, elevator pits, and dewatering applications. These feature oil-filled motors with upper and lower ball bearings, quick-disconnect power cords, and piggy-back switch designs. 3-year warranty from date of manufacture.

4/10–½ HP Effluent Submersible Pumps

Handle ¾″ solids with 2″ FNPT discharge. Heads up to 48′ TDH, flows up to 65 GPM. Available with or without wide-angle float switch. 20′ cord standard.
