How to Match a Franklin Part or Motor

Parts are matched, not sized. The pump you own already sets the answer. Four pieces of nameplate data settle almost every order.

1. Model number first

The model identifies the pump family and, with it, the seal, impeller, case and pump end. Where the nameplate carries Franklin's order number, send it too. On jet pumps, the suffix matters: an FVJ07CI and an FVJ07CI-P take different overhaul kits.

2. On VR pumps, read the model code and date code

Worked example from the VR Series Catalog: 30VR 03 2A G F 1 A K 6 E 3.

Franklin changed VR construction in September 2022. Brackets, seal plates, upper flanges, split couplings and thrust bearing adapters differ between builds. O-ring kits, plugs, shaft pins, bolt kits and matching flanges fit both. The return we see most is a seal kit ordered by pump size alone, from the wrong build.

3. Check the connection pressure

Inlet pressure plus the pump's shut-off pressure must stay under the connection rating. Convert head to pressure at 0.433 psi per ft of water.

Example: a 10VR with 400 ft of shut-off head and 60 psi at the inlet sees 400 × 0.433 = 173.2 psi, plus 60 = 233.2 psi. That is above the 230 psi oval PN16 rating. It calls for the round-flange (F) pump build, which takes the round PN25 kit rated 360 psi. The flange kit follows the pump's flange; changing the kit does not re-rate an oval-flange pump. We confirm against the manufacturer curve and submittal for your model.

4. For a motor, read the frame letters

Source: Close-Coupled AG Series Catalog, motor fit codes. The fit-code table lists 1.250 in for JP-4, while the JP motor tables list 1.625 in for 364JP and 365JP. We confirm on the motor drawing.

Worked example, close-coupled. An AG Series A2256NM-10D2P3 has lost its motor. The code reads 10 HP, ODP (D), 3600 RPM (2P) and three phase (3). The AG catalog lists this pump on a 213JM motor, fit code JM-2. In the JM listing, that is EJMM3312T: 10 HP, 213JM, ODP, 3600 RPM, 208-230/460V, FLA 26-24/12 A.

Worked example, load check. A CEM3711T VR motor (10 HP, 215TC, TEFC) is rated 23.2/11.6 A FLA and 27/13.5 A service-factor amps. A measured 12.5 A at 460 V is above FLA but inside the 1.15 service factor. The motor is working into its margin, so we would review the duty point on the pump curve.
