Overview
The DC disconnect switch is suitable for the solar-powered RSI system. It enables manual starting and stopping of the system, and at least one DC disconnect switch is required for each set of solar panels connected in series to an RSI.
The DC surge protection is suitable for the solar-powered RSI system. It gives a very safe and reliable protection of the system by having a quick response. At least one DC surge protection is required for the DC input of RSI, and Grundfos also recommends one DC surge protection for each solar array connected to RSI. If the distance between the solar panel and the inverter is more than 32 ft (10 m), it is necessary to add extra surge protection closer to the solar panel.
Grundfos lists both items on its price list under the array combiner box: an IP56 powder-coated steel enclosure built up with 40 kA surge arrestors, DC fuse and DC circuit breakers, where all cables from the solar panels are connected into one set of power input cables before connecting them to RSI.

Where Each Item Goes

DC disconnect switch — between each series string of solar panels and the combiner box or RSI input. One per string.

DC surge protection — on the DC input of the RSI, inside the optional combiner box; one more per array is recommended, and an extra one close to the panels when the cable run exceeds 32 ft.

Before You OrderThese are components, not a complete combiner box: the enclosure, DC fuses and wiring are supplied by the installer. Size the number of disconnects to the number of series strings. A solar array is live whenever there is daylight — isolate every DC and AC source before working in the combiner box. Supplied for installation in the United States and shipped to U.S. addresses only.
