21000 Series — No-Lead Brass Submersible Pump

The 21000 is the specification-grade potable water pump: the discharge casting and motor bracket are no-lead brass alloy, bracketing the stainless shell with corrosion-proof, lead-free castings. The threaded acetal check valve carries a 400 PSI working pressure and removes easily for service. A rubber discharge bearing surrounds the stainless shaft — self-lubricating, maintaining alignment in the harshest conditions. Peak capacity models at 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, and 25 GPM.

When to Specify the 21000

Choose no-lead brass when the project specification or local code calls for no-lead wetted components in potable service, or when you want brass's proven durability at the discharge connection — the point of highest mechanical stress when setting and pulling the pump.

The 22000 is the value line for standard residential wells — reinforced thermoplastic motor bracket and discharge with a built-in guide bearing, wrapped around the same stainless steel shell, stainless shaft, and stainless motor coupling as its stainless siblings. Thermoplastic impellers and diffusers keep cost down without giving up the internal anti-spin check valve or Baker's stage-by-stage factory testing. 1/2 through 1 1/2 HP covers wells serving most households.

The 23000 hardens the domestic platform for aggressive water and long service intervals: heavy stainless steel shell threaded at both ends for field service, 300-series stainless easy-wrench discharge with a built-in safety eye, stainless motor bracket, and Baker's Diamond Design easy-out check valve — removable for maximum service convenience. The 7/16" 300-series stainless hex shaft is individually measured for straightness. Up to 5 HP reaches deeper set depths than the thermoplastic line.

The 24000 is Baker's most-ordered stainless steel submersible — the default choice for new 4" wells and like-for-like replacements. Stainless steel discharge head with built-in check valve, stainless shaft and coupling, and the captured stack hydraulic design across peak-capacity models at 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, and 25 GPM. The High Flow line moves the 24000 platform into irrigation, agricultural, and commercial territory: rated models at 35, 40, 55, 60, and 80 GPM, 1 through 10 HP, on a 2" NPT stainless discharge casting. 25000 Series — Thermoplastic Submersible Pump (5–25 GPM)

The 25000 extends the thermoplastic value platform beyond the 22000's ceiling: the same 5–25 GPM flow classes, complete with Baker stainless steel motor and leads, but sized 1/2 through 2 HP — a half-horsepower more reach than the 22000 for deeper static levels or higher pressure settings on a budget-conscious build.

26000 Series — All Stainless Steel Submersible Pump

The 26000 is the flagship construction — the only Baker series where even the impellers and diffusers are stainless steel. 431 stainless shaft, all other metal parts 304 stainless, stainless suction screen, stainless discharge head with built-in check valve, and a motor bracket built to NEMA dimensional standards. Complete with motor and leads, in flow classes at 5, 10, 18, 25, 40, and 70 GPM, 1/2 through 5 HP as stocked (larger available on request). Rated for clean, non-corrosive, non-abrasive liquids to 140°F.

Bottom Suction Cistern Pump

Standard submersibles pull water from above the motor and strand the last foot-plus of tank volume. The Bottom Suction pump inverts that: its intake draws from the bottom of the unit, delivering maximum drawdown without sacrificing longevity — and it passes solids up to 1/8", making it at home in rainwater collection, gray water, filtered effluent, and pond service as well as potable cisterns. Two-wire, 1/2 and 3/4 HP, 115V or 230V, installs vertical or horizontal, CSA listed.

How to Size & Install a Submersible Well Pump

Count fixtures and appliances that can run simultaneously, or match the well's tested yield. This picks the GPM class letter (J through M for domestic wells) — never oversize flow beyond well yield.

Depth to Water, Pumping
Static water level plus drawdown at your pumping rate — from the well report or driller's log. This is the depth that matters, not the well depth.

Total Dynamic Head
Depth to water + elevation rise to the tank + friction loss in the drop pipe + system pressure (each 10 PSI ≈ 23 ft of head). Baker's curve charts state friction losses in the riser are NOT included — add them.

Within your GPM class, pick the horsepower whose curve delivers your required flow at your total head with margin. More HP = more stages = deeper capability.

Pressure Tank Match
Baker guideline: total tank volume ≈ 20% of the pump's maximum flow (a 10 GPM pump wants a 2-gallon minimum total volume), with pre-charge set to 70% of system operating pressure. Check your tank maker's drawdown chart.
⚠ Set Depth Discipline

Set the pump below the maximum expected drawdown but keep it up off the well bottom, clear of accumulated sediment. Running a submersible dry or in silt-laden water is the fastest way to destroy an otherwise long-life pump — Baker's captured stack moves sand through, it doesn't make silt immersion acceptable.

Installation Essentials

Use a proper splice kit on the motor leads, a safety rope rated for the string weight, a torque arrestor on the drop pipe, and a well seal or pitless adapter at the casing. Verify voltage at the pressure switch under load. Line-voltage wiring belongs with a licensed electrician per local code.

Every Baker submersible has an internal check valve at the pump. On deep settings, standard industry practice adds inline check valves in the drop pipe to manage the standing column — tell us your set depth and we'll spec the spacing with the quote.

Baker 4" motors are asynchronous two-pole designs, 1/2 through 10 HP, with 304 stainless steel on every wetted part, a squirrel-cage rotor on a self-centering thrust bearing cooled by a water-glycol mix, and the stator sealed in an airtight 304L stainless can. What arrives with your pump depends only on the wiring configuration:

Two-Wire Single Phase — No Control Box Needed
The starting capacitor sits in a Noryl cartridge connected directly to the motor — the controls are in the motor. Simplest installation: pump, motor, leads, pressure switch, done. Available through 1 1/2 HP in 115V or 230V.

Common Questions

Do I need to buy a control box separately?
No — this catches people who've shopped bare pump ends elsewhere. Every three-wire single-phase Baker submersible includes the matched control box, and every three-wire three-phase model includes the starter kit. Two-wire models don't need a box at all — the starting components are sealed inside the motor. The only extras a typical installation needs are drop pipe, wire, a splice kit, a pressure switch, and a tank.
Two-wire or three-wire — which should I choose?
Through 1 1/2 HP you have the choice. Two-wire means fewer components and nothing to mount above ground — the trade is that starting components are downhole, so a capacitor failure means pulling the pump. Three-wire puts those parts in an above-ground control box you can service in minutes. Above 1 1/2 HP the decision is made for you: three-wire only. For deep sets where pulling the pump is expensive, three-wire earns its keep.
What GPM class does my house need?
A typical residence lands in the 10 GPM (K) class; larger homes with irrigation zones push into 15–25 GPM (L/P/M). Two rules govern: match peak simultaneous demand, and never exceed the well's tested yield — a pump that outruns the well pumps it dry. How do I read a Baker model number like 21050K3A?
Five parts: 21 = series (no-lead brass), 050 = 1/2 HP, K = 10 GPM class, 3 = three-wire, A = 115V single phase. No suffix means the standard 230V single phase 60 Hz; Z = 230V three phase, Y = 460V three phase; LB = less box, LS = less starter. Every pump also carries a stamped code with manufacture date, HP, GPM, and the assembler's mark.
What's the real difference between the 23000 and 24000 stainless series?
Both are stainless steel on the same hydraulic platform. The 23000 is the domestic service-oriented build — heavy shell threaded at both ends, easy-wrench discharge with safety eye, and the Diamond Design easy-out check valve, all aimed at field serviceability. The 24000 is the volume line with the broadest coverage, and it's the only series with the High Flow extension to 80 GPM and 10 HP. For a standard well either works; pick the 23000 when service access matters most, the 24000 when range does.
Is thermoplastic construction good enough for my well?
For normal water chemistry, yes — the 22000's structural spine is still stainless (shell, shaft, motor coupling) and it carries the same internal anti-spin check valve and factory testing as the metal lines. Where thermoplastic gives ground is aggressive or sandy water and higher horsepower: the 22000 tops out at 1 1/2 HP. Corrosive water, deep sets, or long ownership horizons justify the step to the 23000 or 24000 stainless.
Can Baker pumps handle sand?
The captured stack design exists precisely for this: sand notches molded into the polycarbonate diffusers keep abrasive particles moving through the stack instead of grinding between impeller and diffuser — the proven reason these pumps survive real-world wells. That's abrasion tolerance, not a slurry rating: heavy sediment still shortens any pump's life, and the all-stainless 26000 series is specifically rated for clean, non-abrasive liquids. Persistent sand production is a well problem to fix, not a pump spec to buy around.
What sets the 25000 and 26000 apart from the other series?
Both are complete pumps with motor and leads, like every series here. The 25000 extends the thermoplastic platform to 2 HP where the 22000 stops at 1 1/2 — same 5–25 GPM classes, same value construction, more reach. The 26000 is the flagship: the only Baker series with stainless steel impellers and diffusers (every other line uses engineered polymer hydraulics), plus a 431 stainless shaft, 304 stainless everything else, and flow classes to 70 GPM. Specify the 26000 where corrosion resistance is the deciding factor; it's rated for clean, non-abrasive liquids to 140°F.
What pressure tank goes with my pump?
Baker's guideline: total tank volume of roughly 20% of the pump's maximum flow — a 10 GPM pump wants at least a 2-gallon total volume — with the tank pre-charge set to 70% of system operating pressure. Undersized tanks short-cycle the motor, which is the leading killer of otherwise healthy pumps. Check the tank manufacturer's drawdown chart, and when in doubt, size the tank up, never down.
