Common Industrial & Municipal Water Needs

Match your application to the right Goulds product family below.

Municipal Water Supply

Drinking water wells, booster stations, and elevated tank fill. NSF 61 certified equipment with glass-lined bowls and 316 SS shafts for long potable-water service life.

Wastewater Plants

Effluent transfer, plant water supply, and treatment process pumping. Material flexibility for varying fluid chemistry across the plant.

Process Water Transfer

Industrial water transfer, cooling tower fill, and process heating & cooling. e-SHX end-suction smart pumps with NSF 61 and IE5 efficiency.

Mining & Dewatering

Open-pit dewatering, process water, and tailings management. Hard iron and high chrome configurations handle abrasive service.

Closed-Loop Boost

Boost service where suction piping exists rather than a sump or wet well. VIC canned vertical turbines create the pump reservoir via the can/sleeve inlet.

Utility & Industrial Service

Power generation cooling water, snowmaking, water parks, flood control. 5"–11" SS Submersible Turbine for chloride and chemical exposure applications.

Featured Industrial & Municipal Product Families

Four Goulds product families cover the industrial and municipal application range — heavy-duty turbines, high-flow smart pumps, and corrosion-resistant submersibles.

Industrial & Municipal Sizing Decisions

Common decisions where engineering input ensures the right configuration for sustained industrial service.

Material Specification

Glass-lined cast iron for general water service. 316 SS for chloride or chemical exposure. Hard iron or high chrome for abrasive content. Match metallurgy to fluid chemistry.

VIC Canned vs VIT Lineshaft

VIC canned: where suction piping already exists (no sump). VIT lineshaft: open sump or wet pit installation. Same hydraulic performance, different installation geometry.

End-Suction vs Vertical Turbine

End-suction (e-SHX): horizontal mounting, ANSI flange, easier service. Vertical turbine: better NPSH performance, smaller footprint, deeper draft capability.

Continuous Service Considerations

Industrial and municipal duty often runs 24/7. Oil-lubed lineshaft, premium-efficiency motors, and Aquavar VFD control extend service life and reduce energy cost.

Submittal Package Requirements

Municipal and industrial projects typically require certified pump curves, NPSH data, dimensional drawings, motor specs, and controls schematics. Included with quotes.

NSF 61 Compliance

Drinking water service requires NSF/ANSI 61 certification — Goulds e-SHX, jet pumps, and AquaCase are NSF 61 certified. Confirm certification requirements early.

Why Watermain Supply for Industrial & Municipal Goulds

Multi-segment expertise. Industrial and municipal applications span the full Goulds product range — vertical turbines, end-suction smart pumps, packaged boosters, and corrosion-resistant submersibles. We work across the lineup, not handed off between specialists.

Engineering submittal packages. Industrial and municipal projects typically require formal submittals — certified pump curves, dimensional drawings, NPSH-required data, motor specifications, controls schematics, and material certifications. Submittal packages are included with quotes for projects that require them.

Material specification expertise. Industrial fluid chemistry varies widely — pH range, chloride content, abrasive solids, temperature, dissolved gases. We confirm wetted-parts material recommendations against actual water analysis or fluid composition before quoting.

Service after the sale. Goulds Lubbock Customer Service Center supports rebowls, rebuilds, and field service for vertical turbine equipment. We coordinate service through the Lubbock plant for Texas and regional customers, with same-day parts service available on common items.

Industrial & Municipal Goulds — Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between VIC canned and VIT lineshaft turbines?
Same hydraulic performance, different installation geometry. VIT lineshaft is for installations with an existing wet pit, open sump, or well — the pump hangs in the fluid. VIC canned is for installations with existing suction piping but no sump — the can/sleeve creates the pump reservoir, allowing the turbine to operate as a closed-loop booster. Choose VIC when you have a pressurized suction line; choose VIT when you have a sump or wet well.
When should I specify 316 SS construction?
Specify 316 SS when fluid chemistry includes chlorides, mild acids/caustics, or potable water service. The 5"–11" SS Submersible Turbine and e-SHX Smart Pump are both 316 SS standard. For standard well water without chloride exposure, glass-lined cast iron is sufficient and more cost-effective. Send us your water analysis and we'll confirm the right material.
Can you provide submittal packages for engineer review?
Yes. For municipal and industrial projects requiring engineer review, we provide certified pump curves, dimensional drawings, NPSH-required data, motor specifications, controls schematics, and material certifications. Submittal packages are formatted to spec compliance standards and included with quotes for projects that require them.
What about hard iron or high chrome for abrasive service?
For mining, mineral processing, and other applications with abrasive solids, we offer hard iron and high chrome wetted-parts options. These metallurgies extend service life dramatically vs standard cast iron in abrasive duty. Material selection confirmed against your actual fluid analysis — abrasive solids percentage, particle size, and hardness all matter.
Do you handle large-capacity vertical turbines?
Yes — VIT and VIC vertical turbines handle bowl sizes from 5" up to 48", with capacity to 50,000 GPM and head to 400 ft per stage. For municipal water supply and large industrial applications, multi-stage configurations deliver substantial head with efficient hydraulics.
What's the typical lead time on industrial Goulds equipment?
Lead times vary significantly by configuration. Common 5"–11" SS Submersible Turbine sizes typically run 6–10 weeks. e-SHX Smart Pumps run 4–8 weeks. Vertical turbines (VIC/VIT) with custom column lengths run 12–18 weeks. Custom materials and engineering submittal preparation may extend lead time. Exact lead time confirmed on every quote.
Do you handle service and rebuilds on existing equipment?
Yes — Goulds offers rebowl, rebuild, and repair services on existing turbine pumps. Rebowls upgrade efficiency on aging units, rebuilds restore worn pumps to factory specifications. We coordinate through the Goulds Lubbock Customer Service Center for Texas and regional service. Existing Goulds units, competing brands, and custom retrofits all supported.
