About Hydrovar X Smart Pump Platform

A new generation of integrated pump-motor-drive packages designed for commercial and industrial water service.

The Hydrovar X platform integrates three components into a single plug-and-play package: the IE5 synchronous motor, the variable frequency drive, and the pump itself. The motor and drive use separate quick-connect components — meaning a faulted drive or motor can be replaced individually without buying an entirely new pump-and-motor combination. The integrated electrical socket eliminates field wiring between drive and motor.

Hydrovar X delivers one of the broadest efficiency ranges in the industry. Unlike induction motors that lose efficiency at part-load, the IE5 synchronous design maintains close-to-peak efficiency across the full operating envelope. No rare-earth materials — Goulds engineered Hydrovar X without rare-earth permanent magnets, sidestepping the supply-chain volatility that affects competing premium-efficiency pumps.

Built-in protections cover both pump and motor: dry run, motor overcurrent, low system pressure, overheating, short circuit, over/under voltage. The graphical color display enables quick on-pump configuration. Built-in Modbus RTU and BACnet MS/TP support direct integration with building management systems. Optional Avensor IoT platform connectivity provides remote monitoring, historical trend analysis, and predictive failure alerts across the full installed fleet.

Hydrovar X — Frequently Asked Questions

Which pump family should I choose?
e-SVX: Highest head capacity (1,200 ft), vertical orientation, ideal for high-rise pressure boost or any high-head clean-fluid duty. e-HMX: Horizontal multistage, compact footprint, moderate flow (150 GPM) at moderate head (509 ft) — common for car washes and industrial cleaning. e-SHX: End-suction with ANSI flanges, highest flow (970 GPM) at lower head, NSF 61 certified, ideal for water transfer and boiler feed. e-HVX/HVXR: Pre-packaged multi-pump booster system using e-SV pumps with Hydrovar X drives — the turnkey solution for commercial building pressure boost.
What does IE5 mean and why does it matter?
IE5 is the International Electrotechnical Commission's "ultra-premium" efficiency classification — the highest motor efficiency tier currently defined. Compared to standard IE2 induction motors, IE5 delivers significant energy savings, especially at part-load conditions. Most motors lose efficiency dramatically when running below rated speed, but IE5 synchronous design maintains close-to-peak efficiency across the full operating envelope. For pumps that frequently operate at varying speeds (almost all variable-demand applications), the energy savings compound over time.
Can the drive or motor be replaced independently?
Yes — that's a key Hydrovar X design feature. The drive and motor use separate quick-connect components with an integrated electrical socket. If the drive fails, replace the drive only. If the motor fails, replace the motor only. No need to replace the entire pump-and-motor combination, no field wiring during replacement. This minimizes downtime and replacement cost vs traditional integrated pump-motor units.
What's the difference between e-HVX and e-HVXR?
Both are packaged multi-pump boosters using the same Hydrovar X smart motor and e-SV pumps. The difference is footprint and capacity:

e-HVX: Larger footprint, higher capacity (up to 2,100 GPM, 880 ft head, 380 PSI max).
e-HVXR: Up to 30% smaller footprint via reoriented suction/discharge manifolds, lower capacity (up to 380 GPM, 550 ft head, 270 PSI max). Choose e-HVXR when installation space is constrained and capacity is sufficient.
Does Hydrovar X integrate with building management systems?
Yes — natively, without gateway hardware. Hydrovar X supports MODBUS RTU and BACnet MS/TP communication protocols directly. This enables direct integration with most commercial building management systems for monitoring, control, and alarm reporting. Standard hardwired I/O is also available, with extended I/O option for more complex integration. Confirm BMS protocol and points list when specifying.
What is Avensor and do I need it?
Avensor is Xylem's IoT cloud platform for remote pump monitoring. Hydrovar X smart motors can connect to Avensor for real-time fleet visibility, historical trend analysis, and predictive failure alerts across all installed pumps. It's optional — Hydrovar X works fully standalone with on-pump display and Bluetooth app. Avensor adds value for facilities managing multiple pump installations or wanting predictive maintenance capability.
Why no rare-earth materials?
Most premium-efficiency synchronous motors rely on rare-earth permanent magnets, which face supply-chain volatility (concentrated production, geopolitical risk, price spikes). Goulds engineered Hydrovar X without rare-earth materials — delivering IE5 efficiency through alternative motor design. This sidesteps supply-chain risk and addresses environmental concerns about rare-earth mining. Practical benefit: more predictable lead times and pricing.
What's the typical lead time on Hydrovar X smart pumps?
Single-pump configurations (e-SVX, e-HMX, e-SHX) typically ship within 4–8 weeks. Packaged boosters (AQUAFORCE e-HVX/HVXR) typically run 6–10 weeks given the multi-pump assembly. Custom configurations, BMS programming, or specific motor/drive combinations may extend lead time. Exact lead time confirmed on every quote.
