Commercial Sizing Decisions

Common decisions where engineering input ensures the right configuration the first time.

Building Demand Profiling

Use Hunter's Curve and AWWA M22 to calculate peak demand from fixture units. Most building boosters are oversized — accurate demand profiling saves capital and operating cost.

Pump Family Selection

e-HVX/HVXR for packaged building boost. e-SVX for high-head clean fluid. e-SHX for high flow at moderate head with ANSI flanges. e-HMX for horizontal multistage.

Multi-Pump Configuration

Duplex (2 pumps) is standard for commercial redundancy. Triplex (3 pumps) for higher capacity and N+1 redundancy. Up to 8 pumps networked for the largest applications.

BMS Integration Planning

Hydrovar X supports MODBUS RTU and BACnet MS/TP directly — no gateway hardware. Confirm BMS protocol and points list during specification.

Soft Start vs Across-the-Line

Hydrovar X integrated VFD provides full variable speed and soft start. Reduces inrush current, mechanical stress on system, and water hammer events.

Material Selection

304 SS for clean water service. 316 SS for chloride exposure or potable water. Cast iron pump body acceptable for closed-loop hydronic. Match to fluid chemistry.

Why Watermain Supply for Commercial Goulds

Hydrovar X is the most advanced Smart Pump platform Goulds has ever shipped — IE5 ultra-premium efficiency, no rare-earth materials, integrated VFDs, multi-pump networking, and BMS integration via MODBUS RTU and BACnet MS/TP. We specialize in Hydrovar X commercial applications.

Engineering-led pump selection. Commercial building boosters get over-specified frequently — 50% oversizing is common in the industry. We size to actual demand using Hunter's Curve and AWWA M22, not to nameplate-maximum-everywhere safety margins. Right-sized boosters cost less, use less energy, and last longer.

Engineering submittal packages. For projects requiring engineer review and approval — certified pump curves, dimensional drawings, NPSH data, motor specifications, controls schematics. Formatted for spec compliance and submittal review.

Houston-based, Gulf Coast focused. Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and New Mexico commercial service. Local technical support, faster shipping for urgent projects, and Houston-area service partner coordination.

Commercial Goulds — Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between e-HVX and e-HVXR?
Both are packaged multi-pump booster systems using the same Hydrovar X smart motor platform. e-HVX: larger footprint, higher capacity (up to 2,100 GPM, 880 ft head). e-HVXR: 30% smaller footprint via reoriented suction/discharge manifolds, lower capacity (up to 380 GPM, 550 ft head). Choose e-HVXR when installation space is constrained.
Why Hydrovar X over standard induction motor pumps?
Hydrovar X delivers IE5 ultra-premium efficiency — the highest motor efficiency tier currently defined. Standard induction motors lose efficiency dramatically at part-load (which is most of the time for commercial boost applications). IE5 synchronous design maintains close-to-peak efficiency across the full operating envelope. Result: significantly lower energy costs over the life of the equipment.
Can Hydrovar X integrate with our existing BMS?
Yes — Hydrovar X supports MODBUS RTU and BACnet MS/TP communication protocols natively, no gateway hardware required. Direct integration with most commercial building management systems for monitoring, control, and alarm reporting. Confirm BMS protocol and points list during specification.
Do you provide engineering submittals for projects?
Yes. For commercial projects requiring engineer review, we provide certified pump curves, dimensional drawings, NPSH-required data, motor specifications, and controls schematics formatted for spec compliance and submittal review. Submittal packages are included with quotes for projects that require them.
What's the typical lead time on Hydrovar X equipment?
Single-pump configurations (e-SVX, e-HMX, e-SHX) typically ship within 4–8 weeks. Packaged boosters (AQUAFORCE e-HVX/HVXR) typically run 6–10 weeks given multi-pump assembly. Custom configurations or BMS programming may extend lead time. Exact lead time confirmed on every quote.
Do you handle installation or just supply?
We supply the equipment. For installation, we coordinate with mechanical contractors and Goulds-authorized service partners in your area. Most commercial installations require a licensed mechanical contractor and electrician. We provide installation drawings, startup procedures, and BMS integration documentation to support your installer.
