Smith-Blair Style 366 Ductile Iron Service Saddle - Large Diameter, 18-42 in

The Smith-Blair Style 366 is a triple-strap service saddle made for tapping large diameter pipe, 19.25 to 43.15 in OD. A wide ductile iron body sits steady on the pipe, the tapped ductile iron insert carries a Nitrile O-ring cemented in its cavity, and three epoxy-coated steel straps give continuous support nearly 360° around the pipe at the tapped area.

Ductile iron hemispherical washers give the strap nuts full bearing and align the straps with the body, and the open ears let the straps slip on without removing the nuts. It fits cast iron, ductile iron, steel, asbestos cement, concrete and PVC pipe, with NPT outlets from 3/4 to 2-1/2 in and CC outlets from 3/4 to 2 in.

Application: service taps, air/vacuum valves, drains and other branch connections on large diameter water mains, 18 to 42 in.

Choose the size and pipe OD in the first option and the tap in the second; the part number shows in the last option.

• Clean the pipe thoroughly where the O-ring will seat, removing scale, dirt or debris, and check the O-ring is clean and in position in the tapped boss.
• Lubricate the pipe surface and gasket with a soap-and-water solution that meets the water and pipe supplier's requirements, then set the tapped boss in the body.
• Mount the body as close to the final tap position as possible: moving or rolling the saddle on the pipe can damage the gasket.
• Fit the straps around the pipe and engage the hemispherical washers, flat washers and nuts in the body slots; tighten progressively and uniformly to the torque in the instructions, keeping stud lengths equal on both sides, and do not over-torque.
• The saddle torque provides the gasket seal only; the saddle is not designed to give structural rigidity for connections or equipment.
• Make up the connection with a thread compound that is both lubricant and sealant (no tape products); a pressure test for leaks before tapping is recommended.
