Description
The Smith-Blair Style 325 is a bronze service saddle for tapping branch connections on water mains. The cast red brass body resists corrosion and wraps the pipe, held by a single 3.5 in wide Type 304 stainless steel strap on four studs for a wide, stable stance.
This listing carries the rigid-pipe bodies: each covers an OD range that spans steel and ductile iron OD at the same nominal size (4.50-4.80 in at 4 in up to 12.75-13.20 in at 12 in), with 3/4 to 2 in NPT or CC outlets. It also serves for air/vacuum valves, drain valves and other service equipment.
Application: service taps of 3/4 to 2 in on 4-12 in steel, ductile iron and cast iron pipe.

Installation Notes
- Confirm the saddle type, tap size and pipe OD range match the job, then clean the pipe where the gasket will seat, removing scale, dirt and debris.
- Check the gasket is seated in the body; lubricate the pipe and gasket with a soap-and-water solution (anti-freeze may be required) that meets the water and pipe supplier's requirements.
- Mount the body as close to the final tap position as possible and check its location before tightening: moving or rolling the body on the pipe can damage the gasket.
- Tighten the 5/8 in nuts progressively and evenly to the torque in the instructions, keeping the stud lengths on both sides equal; do not over-torque. The saddle seals the tap and is not designed to give structural rigidity to connections or equipment, so support those separately.
- Make the connection with a pipe-thread compound that both lubricates and seals (no tape products), without cross-threading or rocking the saddle body.
- Pressure-test the saddle for leaks before making the tap.
