Why Wet-Prime

Wet-prime requires the pump be filled before starting — simpler and lower-cost than Dri-Prime. The trade-off is initial priming setup; the gain is significant cost savings on appropriate applications.

Four Application Variants

GWP (Dewatering), GTP (Trash), GPP (Pressure), GPL (Plastic) — each engineered for its specific service category.

Compact & Portable

Frame-mounted, single-person handling on smaller models. Easy site mobility and storage.

Engine-Driven Independence

Gasoline engine — grid-independent operation, no electrical connection required.

Cost-Effective

Significantly lower price point than Dri-Prime equivalents. Right answer when self-priming isn't required.

Application-Specific Design

GTP impeller and volute optimized for trash; GPP for pressure / jetting; GPL plastic body for chemical / saltwater service.

Compatible Accessories

Standard NPT discharge connections accept common quick-disconnect fittings, hoses, and accessories.

Dewatering Variants — GWP Series

Clean-water and semi-trash construction dewatering. Suitable for landscaping, irrigation, manhole drainage, vault pumping.

Model Suct/Disch (in) Solids (in) Max TDH (ft) Flow (GPM) Power (HP) Fuel (gal) Wt (lb)
GWP-25HX 1 106 30 1.1 0.15 12.1
GWP-50HX 2 ¾ 95 158 4.0 0.66 51
GWP-80HX 3 ¾ 85 238 5.5 0.95 64
GWP-100HX 4 ¾ 92 383 8.0 1.58 123

Trash, Pressure & Plastic Variants

GTP — trash-laden water with up to 2-in solids. GPP — high-pressure jetting and remote firefighting. GPL — plastic body for agricultural chemicals and saltwater.

Wet-Prime Variant Selection Guide

Each wet-prime variant is engineered for a specific service category — use this guide to spec the right model:

Variant Selection

  • GWP — Dewatering. Construction site dewatering, clean water with light abrasives and small solids, landscaping irrigation, utility manhole / vault drainage. Most common variant.
  • GTP — Trash. Construction trash-laden water, stream / pond dewatering, septic tanks and manholes, water with light abrasives and 1–2-in solids. Semi-vortex impeller protects against clogs.
  • GPP — Pressure. Marine construction, remote firefighting, landscaping, irrigation, tank cleaning, hydraulic jetting. 187 ft head capability is the value proposition.
  • GPL — Plastic. Agricultural chemical transfer, general dewatering with chemical exposure, landscaping, irrigation, saltwater dewatering, swimming pool service. Plastic body resists chemical attack.
  • Engine fuel. Gasoline standard — readily available, easy field service. No diesel option in this product line.
  • Accessories. Standard NPT threaded suction and discharge connections. Compatible with common cam-lock fittings, suction strainers, and discharge hoses.

Wet-Prime Applications

Wet-prime pumps cover the small-portable end of the contractor / site-service market.

Construction Dewatering

Footing and foundation pit pumping, trench dewatering, post-rain site cleanup. GWP-50HX / GWP-80HX cover most needs.

Landscaping & Irrigation

Pond filling, irrigation transfer, drainage of low-lying areas. GWP and GPL series.

Agriculture

Crop irrigation, livestock water transfer, agricultural chemical handling (GPL plastic body for chemical service).

Marine Construction

Bilge pumping, dock and small vessel service, jetting (GPP for pressure-side work).

Manhole & Vault Service

Utility crew pumping for telecom vaults, water valve boxes, sewer manholes during inspection / repair.

Emergency / Disaster Response

Flood cleanup, basement dewatering, post-storm site recovery. GTP for trash-laden floodwater.

Wet-Prime FAQ

What's the difference between Wet-Prime and Dri-Prime?
Dri-Prime self-primes from dry up to 28 ft of suction lift — you start the pump and it primes automatically. Wet-Prime requires the pump casing be filled with water before starting — if it loses prime mid-operation, it must be re-primed manually. Dri-Prime is more capable and more expensive; Wet-Prime is simpler and lower cost. Choose Wet-Prime when manual priming is acceptable and the cost difference matters.
Which Wet-Prime variant for general construction site service?
GWP-50HX or GWP-80HX cover most general construction dewatering. GTP-50HX or GTP-80HX if the water carries trash, leaves, debris, or small solids. Tell us your typical application and we'll spec accordingly.
Why GPL Plastic vs. GWP Dewatering?
GPL has a plastic pump body specifically for chemical resistance — agricultural chemicals, swimming pool chemicals, saltwater, and other applications where standard cast-iron would corrode. Performance is similar to GWP-50HX, with chemical compatibility being the differentiator. Spec GPL whenever the fluid has any chemical or salt content.
What's the suction lift on Wet-Prime?
Wet-Prime pumps achieve suction lift in proportion to their priming-charge level — typically 20–25 ft if properly primed. This is theoretical — in practice, atmospheric pressure limits suction to about 28–30 ft total at sea level. For deeper lifts, use Dri-Prime (28 ft from dry) or Heidra (no lift limit).
Do you stock Wet-Prime in Houston?
Wet-Prime models are configured-to-order and shipped factory-direct from Xylem. Lead times typically 1–3 weeks for standard configurations — faster than Dri-Prime equipment due to simpler builds. For emergency / immediate need, contact us about expediting.
