Why Sub-Prime

Sub-Prime fills the gap between contractor-grade utility pumps and full Heidra systems — industrial-quality construction in a compact electric package.

Run-Dry Capable

Silicon-carbide upper and lower seal faces tolerate dry running without damage — critical for unattended manhole and vault service.

Compact Slim-Line Design

GSP series fits down narrow vault openings and confined manholes. Top-discharge design maximizes pumping in shallow water.

Three Variants

GSP (small dewatering), GST (small trash with semi-vortex impeller, 1-in solids), GSP-SL (slim-line dewatering with cast steel impeller).

Capacitor-Start Motors

High-torque capacitor-start motors with thermal overload protection and non-wicking cable. Built for repeated start cycles.

Single & Three Phase

GSP05 / GSP10 / GSP20 / GST05 / GST10 single-phase 115/230 V. GSP20SL available in single (115/230 V) or three-phase (230/460/575 V).

CSA Approved

All Sub-Prime models carry CSA approval (cULus) for safe installation in commercial and industrial environments.

Sub-Prime Models & Specifications

All models 3,600 RPM. Discharge connection in inches. Solids handling indicates maximum spherical particle that passes the impeller.

Sub-Prime Configuration Notes

Sub-Prime is configured-to-order in a much narrower range than Dri-Prime — the variants ARE the configuration:

Available Configurations

  • Discharge size. GSP20SL ships with 3-in discharge standard, 2-in optional. All other GSP models have fixed discharge size per spec.
  • Cable length. Standard 33-ft (10 m) cable. Longer cable lengths available on request — specify total run from controller to pump.
  • Float switch. Optional integral float switch for automatic on/off operation in attended sumps. Recommended for unattended manhole installations.
  • Voltage selection. Single-phase models ship 115/230 V dual-voltage. Three-phase GSP20SL ships 230/460/575 V — specify voltage at order.
  • Materials. Cast-iron pump body standard. Stainless steel impellers on GSP-SL slim-line. Silicon-carbide seal faces standard across all models.
  • Application kit. Discharge hose, hose adapter, and float switch can be bundled. Specify when ordering.

Sub-Prime Applications

Sub-Prime owns the niche between commodity hardware-store pumps and full Heidra systems.

Vault & Manhole Dewatering

Storm and sanitary manhole pumping for utility crews, telecom vault drainage, valve box dewatering.

Construction Site Pits

Rainwater removal from formwork pits, footing excavations, and small foundation cuts where a CD pump is overkill.

Basement / Building Service

Flood response, basement dewatering, elevator pit drainage, mechanical room sumps.

Confined-Space Pumping

Tank cleanouts, ship hold drainage, narrow access-pit pumping where slim-line GSP20SL fits where standard pumps don't.

Light Industrial

Coolant sump drainage, plating bath transfer (with stainless options), dust collector water removal.

Emergency Response

Storm response, frozen pipe leak cleanup, water-damage restoration, sump backup during power outages.

Sub-Prime FAQ

How is Sub-Prime different from a hardware-store submersible?
Three things: (1) Silicon-carbide upper and lower seal faces tolerate dry running indefinitely — commodity pumps burn out the seal face within minutes of dry running. (2) Capacitor-start motors with thermal overload protection survive repeated start cycles — commodity motors fail under cycling duty. (3) Cast-iron and stainless construction lasts in continuous service. Sub-Prime is built for utility crews, contractors, and industrial maintenance teams who can't afford pump failure.
Which model do I need?
GSP05 / GSP10 / GSP20 — clean water dewatering with progressively higher head capacity. GST05 / GST10 — trashy water with up to 1-in solids (semi-vortex impeller). GSP20SL — slim-line for narrow vault access OR three-phase availability. Send us your application (head, fluid, access constraints) and we'll spec the right model.
Can Sub-Prime handle sewage?
GST series handles small solids up to 1 in — acceptable for grit, small debris, and light wastewater. For full raw sewage handling (5-in solids), step up to Heidra submersibles or use a CD-series surface pump with appropriate suction-side configuration.
What about freezing temperatures?
Sub-Prime pumps can be left in service in cold conditions while pumping (the moving fluid prevents freeze). Static / drained pumps in freezing conditions should be removed and stored above freezing. Cable cold-flexibility rated to −20°F.
Single phase or three phase?
Single-phase (115/230 V) is the default — works on any standard outlet or circuit. Three-phase (230/460/575 V) is available on GSP20SL only and is preferred for industrial / municipal installations with three-phase service available, due to better motor efficiency and longer life.
