What Ships and What It Needs to Run
Included: the 27000 pump end and its NEMA 56C single-phase motor, coupled through the shaft extension as one complete pump, with power leads and ground wire for connection to a pressure switch.
Pressure relief valve required, ordered separately. A.Y. McDonald requires one on every installation, because these pumps can develop very high pressure. On a city main, use a pressure relief valve, a pressure reducing valve, or both, especially where a pressure tank is installed.
Check valve, pressure gauge, pressure switch and foot valve: sized to your installation and ordered separately. A.Y. McDonald calls for a reliable check valve on the discharge, a pressure switch wherever a spray nozzle or automatic on/off is used, and a spring-loaded foot valve with strainer when drawing from a tank, pond or lake.
Overview
A.Y. McDonald builds the 27000 Super Booster for jobs that need high pressure at modest flow: booster systems, filtration, spray systems, water circulation and reverse osmosis, plus general-purpose pumping in residential and commercial work and pressure washing in agriculture. The line runs from 1/2 to 2 HP in six flow groups, rated by the nominal flow in the model name: J 5 GPM, V 7 GPM, K 10 GPM, L 15 GPM, P 20 GPM and M 25 GPM.
Certified for drinking water to NSF/ANSI 61 and NSF/ANSI 372.
The pump is meant to be fed with water at or slightly above the centerline of its impellers: from a city main, a wall hydrant, or a storage tank piped to the intake. It lifts 2 to 3 ft at most, and only with a dependable foot valve and a priming tee.
-
Keyed-shaft motor with shaft extension and coupling — the motor and the pump end separate for easy motor replacement.
-
Corrosion-resistant build — stainless steel shell, shaft extension and hex shaft; no-lead brass intake and discharge; thermoplastic impellers and diffusers.
-
3/4 in ceramic/carbon rotary mechanical seal and a drain plug.
Genuine A.Y. McDonald equipment, factory-new in original packaging — sold and supported by Watermain Supply, an independent industrial supplier. Watermain Supply is an Authorized Stocking A.Y. McDonald and Baker Water Systems Distributor.
12-Month A.Y. McDonald Warranty
Covered for 1 year from the date of installation, or 2 years from the date of manufacture, whichever comes first, under A.Y. McDonald’s published limited warranty terms, as set out in the A.Y. McDonald Pumps & Accessories Price List. Components made by other manufacturers, such as the motor, carry their original manufacturer’s warranty.
Single Unit
Each 27000 Super Booster runs as one self-contained pump. Size it to the full peak demand at the pressure you need.

Where two voltages are shown, the first is the factory wiring setting: 1/2 HP models ship wired for 115V, 3/4 HP and larger for 230V, and 2 HP models are 230V only. Voltage is changed with the voltage change device on the motor, never at the pressure switch. All models listed are single phase.

McDonald prints 81 and 149 psi beside 178 ft and 327 ft; the feet and the published curve give 77 and 141 psi, and the lower figure is shown. Max flow is the end of the published curve, rounded down.

Reading it: the 1 HP K model (27100KHB) holds 116 PSI at 10 GPM and 69 PSI at 15 GPM. Fed from a city main, the pump adds its pressure on top of what arrives, so a pressure relief valve is always required.
Zero flow is the shut-off point — a ceiling, not a working point, and A.Y. McDonald warns against running against a closed valve for more than a minute. Each table ends inside the published curve. Figures are 60 Hz US data digitized from the published curves in the Pumps by Baker catalog, rev 3/26, pp. 277-278, and rounded down; the 0 GPM column is the published shut-off.
Before You Buy — The Limits That Decide the Fit
| Maximum pressure |
74 to 297 PSI at shut-off, by model. There is no built-in controller: outlet pressure is incoming pressure plus what the pump develops, so a pressure relief valve is always required. |
| Maximum system pressure |
Not published as a separate casing rating. Use piping and hoses rated for the pressures these pumps develop. |
| Suction |
Not self-priming. Up to 2 to 3 ft below the impellers, only with a dependable foot valve and a priming tee; the water source is best level with or slightly above the pump. |
| Power |
115/230V single phase on 1/2 to 1 1/2 HP; 230V single phase on 2 HP. Supply within 10% of the nameplate voltage, on a ground-fault-protected circuit. |
| Drinking water |
Certified to NSF/ANSI 61 and NSF/ANSI 372. |
| Water temperature |
150°F maximum. Clean water only: sand and abrasives wear the seal early. |
| Operation |
Run it with water flowing. Against a closed valve for more than a minute the water can pass 200°F, and running dry damages the seal. |
| Installation |
A dry, accessible, ventilated location protected from freezing. The motor is not submersible and must be kept away from spray. |
| Pairing |
Single unit. |
