Description
The Smith-Blair Style 357 is a double-strap service saddle with a large tapped outlet, built for 3 in and 4 in NPT branch connections on PVC and steel water mains. A wide ductile iron body and heavy tapping boss sit steady on the pipe, and two 2 in wide 304 stainless straps spread the clamping load over a large area so non-rigid pipe such as PVC is not damaged as the straps are tightened.
The Nitrile gasket is a pressure-energized concave wedge, fully cemented into the body cavity so it stays in place and seals without rolling. A closed lug on one side works with the straps as a hinge, and the open ears on the other side let the straps slip on without removing the nuts. It is made for 6 to 12 in pipe and is not for use on ductile iron pipe.
Application: large branch taps, air/vacuum valves, drains and other service connections on new or existing PVC or steel distribution mains, 6 to 12 in.

12-Month Smith-Blair Warranty
Smith-Blair warrants its products to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of shipment by Smith-Blair. Dated proof of purchase, such as a bill of sale, is required to establish eligibility. Smith-Blair will repair or, at its option, replace a defective product; the product is returned to the factory or warehouse Smith-Blair designates.
Working Pressure
Up to 150 PSI. depending on size and application. Smith-Blair notes the allowable pressure depends on type of pipe, pipe diameter, service conditions and installation workmanship.

Pipe Applications
PVC, carbon steel and stainless steel pipe, 6 to 12 in nominal. Certain sizes meet the Uni-Bell Handbook of PVC Pipe and AWWA M23 when the body is sized to the PVC pipe. Not for ductile iron pipe.

Choose the size and pipe OD in the first option and the tap in the second; the part number shows in the last option.
Installation Notes
- Confirm the saddle size range and tap match the pipe before starting; the 357 is not for ductile iron pipe.
- Clean the pipe where the gasket will seat and remove any scale, dirt or debris that could affect the seal.
- Seat the body on the pipe at the tap location, wrap the straps around the pipe and slip the studs into the open ears; the closed lug on the other side acts as a hinge.
- Tighten the nuts evenly so the straps draw down uniformly; the wide straps spread the load to protect PVC pipe.
- Make up the branch connection with a thread compound that meets the water supplier's requirements, without cross-threading or rocking the body.
