Description
The Smith-Blair Style 477 is the fabricated steel sleeve of the Pipe-Lock system, built for use with MJ gaskets and restraints. Each end is a gasket sealing surface, so with an MJ gasket and a restraint gland on each side it joins and restrains plain-end pipe and replaces split or excessively damaged pipe.
The sleeve by itself does not couple, seal or restrain — the gaskets and restraints fitted to it do. On 3 to 8 in sizes, guide rings welded to the sleeve ends center the gland and spread its sealing force evenly over the gasket. Length — 7, 10 or 16 in, depending on size — is chosen in Option 2.
Application: connecting plain-end ductile iron and plain-end PVC pipe, 3 to 48 in; also steel pipe at 3 to 12 in.

Included: the epoxy-coated steel sleeve only.
MJ gaskets, restraint glands and studs, ordered separately. For a complete restrained joint in one part number, Smith-Blair builds the 471 (ductile iron), 472 (PVC) and 473 (PVC to ductile iron) Pipe-Lock couplings on this sleeve.
Genuine Smith-Blair equipment, factory-new in original packaging — sold and supported by Watermain Supply, an independent industrial supplier.
12-Month Smith-Blair Warranty
Smith-Blair warrants its products to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of shipment by Smith-Blair. Dated proof of purchase, such as a bill of sale, is required to establish eligibility. Smith-Blair will repair or, at its option, replace a defective product; the product is returned to the factory or warehouse Smith-Blair designates.
Working Pressure
Up to 350 PSI. Smith-Blair rates the sleeve by size, falling from 350 PSI at 3 to 16 in to 140 PSI at 48 in; the assembled joint's rating also depends on the restraints, gaskets and pipe used with it.

Pipe Applications
Plain-end ductile iron and plain-end PVC pipe at ductile iron ODs, 3 to 48 in, and steel pipe at 3 to 12 in. PVC applications follow the restraint's limits (SDR 26 or heavier wall for the Cam-Lock 120).

Installation Notes
- Inspect the shipment for transit damage and confirm the correct product before installing.
- Install the sleeve with its gaskets and restraints per the restraint manufacturer's instructions.
- Set the pipe gap at 1/2 to 3/4 in for a 7 in sleeve and 1/2 to 1-1/4 in for a 10 in sleeve.
- The sleeve alone does not restrain: the restraints fitted to each end hold the pipe.
