Overview

Horizontal, multistage centrifugal pump with the motor close-coupled to the pump end and the suction port on the end of the pump. Unlike the vertical CR range, the CM sits on its feet on a horizontal base, which suits a plant room where headroom is short and floor space is not.

The CM 10 frame is rated at 52.8 GPM. The family number is Grundfos’s nominal duty in cubic metres per hour, not a GPM figure — size the pump from the rated head table below, not from the model number.

5 models are offered, from CM 10-1 to CM 10-5, covering 1.5 to 8.4 HP on NEMA close-coupled motors. Adding stages raises head at the same flow without changing the footprint. Connections are 1-1/2 in NPT female suction and discharge, and the pump is rated 232 psi maximum operating pressure.

Why 316 rather than 304. The hydraulics are identical: Grundfos publishes the same rated head for the -I and -G builds of every model. What changes is corrosion resistance. The molybdenum in AISI 316 resists chloride pitting, which 304 does not, so the -G build is the grade for softened, brackish and chloride-bearing water. Where chlorides are not the issue, the -I build does the same hydraulic job for less.

Performance — Will It Do What You Need?

Find the head you need in feet and pick the model that meets it at 52.8 GPM. Head is what the pump adds to the pressure already at its inlet, not the pressure you will read at the outlet.

Model HP Rated flow - GPM Rated head - ft Rated head - m
CM 10-1 1.5 52.8 53 16.12
CM 10-2 3.4 52.8 116 35.44
CM 10-3 5.4 52.8 180 54.77
CM 10-4 8.4 52.8 243 74.09
CM 10-5 8.4 52.8 306 93.42

Figures are Grundfos published data for 60 Hz at the rated duty point, based on a pump speed of 3480 rpm. Divide feet by 2.31 for psi; elevation costs 0.433 psi per foot of lift. Grundfos Product Center publishes no page for CM 10-4 and CM 10-5 in this material, so the head shown for those models is the figure published for the AISI 304 build, which is identical on every model where Grundfos publishes both. For a duty between two models, or for flows away from 52.8 GPM, ask us to size it against the published curve.

Key Features
  • 316 Stainless Steel — AISI 316 stainless throughout the liquid path.
  • Horizontal close-coupled build — motor and pump end on one shaft, on feet, so no coupling alignment and no separate baseplate to grout.
  • Multistage hydraulics — head is set by stage count at a fixed frame flow, so the duty point is chosen without oversizing the motor.
  • Cartridge-format shaft seal — AQQE or AQQV, replaced without setting the seal by hand.
  • WRAS, ACS, NSF61, UBA approvals for drinking water contact.
  • 232 psi maximum operating pressure on this material build.
  • 1-1/2 in NPT female suction and discharge — threaded, so no companion flanges to order.
Shaft Seal Options
  • AQQE — EPDM. Carbon against silicon carbide with an EPDM O-ring. The standard water seal: potable water, hot water and glycol. Mineral oils need AQQV.
  • AQQV — FKM. Carbon against silicon carbide with an FKM O-ring, for mineral oils, fuels and liquids that attack EPDM. Note that FKM carries the lower temperature ceiling of the two.
Liquid temperature by seal
  • AQQE — −4 °F to 248 °F on CM 10-1, CM 10-2, CM 10-3, CM 10-4.
  • AQQE — −4 °F to 194 °F on CM 10-5.
  • AQQV — −4 °F to 194 °F.

In the Grundfos type key the final letter is the rubber: E = EPDM, V = FKM. The seal is a specification decision, not a preference — it changes the published temperature limit.

What Is Supplied

Each part number is a complete pump: pump end, close-coupled motor and shaft seal, factory assembled and tested. The suction and discharge connections are NPT female threads, so no companion flanges or couplings are needed.

Motor starters, variable frequency drives, pressure sensors, pressure tanks, base plates, foundation bolts and isolation valves are not included. These are fixed-speed pumps; for integrated variable-speed control see the CME range.

Ordering Information

Select the HP and voltage, then the model, then the seal. Each combination is a distinct Grundfos part number, listed in the table above and shown in the SKU of the selected variant.

The picker shows only the combinations Grundfos publishes.

Before You OrderConfirm the duty point against the rated head table, and confirm horsepower, voltage and phase against your service — single-phase and three-phase units are not interchangeable. Check that liquid temperature sits inside the limit for the seal selected, and that system pressure sits under the 232 psi rating of this material build.
