Description

The Smith-Blair Style 377 is a wide range, all 304 stainless steel service saddle with two studs. Each size covers a broad OD range within its nominal size, so one saddle fits several pipe types and cuts inventory. Designed for PVC and suited to steel, ductile iron, cast iron, asbestos cement and other pipe, its 7-1/2 in band gives even sealing and pipe support without crushing action.

The outlet gasket is bonded into the band, with a hydro-mechanical lip that seals tighter as line pressure rises, and a keeper bar helps pull the band around the pipe and close it during installation. Sizes run 4 to 12 in with CC outlets from 1/2 to 2 in and NPT outlets from 3/4 to 2 in; for larger diameters Smith-Blair points to the Style 372.

Application: new service taps and restoring damaged or torn-out service connections on mixed pipe inventories, 4 to 12 in.

What Ships and What It Needs to Run

Included: the 304 stainless band with its bonded Nitrile outlet gasket, lug bar, fingers and keeper bar, two welded 304 stainless studs, fluoropolymer-coated nuts and washers.

On HDPE pipe: spring washers are required on HDPE DR17 or thicker; they are a separate option, not included.

12-Month Smith-Blair Warranty

Smith-Blair warrants its products to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of shipment by Smith-Blair. Dated proof of purchase, such as a bill of sale, is required to establish eligibility. Smith-Blair will repair or, at its option, replace a defective product; the product is returned to the factory or warehouse Smith-Blair designates.

Working Pressure

Up to 150 PSI. depending on size, application and pipe condition. Smith-Blair notes the allowable pressure also depends on pipe type, service conditions and installation workmanship.

Choose the size and pipe OD in the first option and the tap in the second; the part number shows in the last option.

Installation Notes
  • Confirm the saddle OD range and tap match the pipe before starting; on HDPE (DR17 or thicker) fit the spring washers.
  • Clean the pipe where the outlet gasket will seat, removing scale, dirt or debris.
  • Wrap the band around the pipe with the outlet at the tap location; the keeper bar helps pull the band around the pipe and close it.
  • Tighten the two nuts evenly so the band draws down uniformly; follow the instructions packed with the saddle for torque.
  • Make up the service connection with a thread compound that meets the water supplier's requirements.
