The JCM 172 is an extended-range universal clamp coupling: a double or multi-band repair clamp that gives a full circumferential seal over an extra-wide OD range, so six clamps fit all cast iron and asbestos cement pressure pipe from 4 through 12 in. A heavy-duty lug, larger bolts and a thicker stainless band give the safety factor large pipe repairs need, which makes it particularly suited to 10 in and larger.
Balanced, low-profile ductile iron lugs with mutually supporting sliding fingers tighten without distortion over a wide range, and the 304 stainless band, positively attached to the lugs, conforms to pipe irregularities and keeps sealing pressure over the whole gasket.
The 170 series adds JCM's removable lug system: slide the open-ear lug section off the band's receiver pleat, wrap the clamp around the pipe and slide the lug back. Bolt torque locks the lug into place and prevents band pull-out. It overcomes cramped underground utility work, rockbound soil, narrow piping galleries and limited excavation, in the same sizes and ranges as the JCM 102.
Typical application: Repair, temporary or permanent: breaks, cracks, splits, holes, corroded areas and pin holes, and connection of plain-end pipe.
Key Features
- Gridded gasket with long tapered ends and a recessed stainless bridge plate seals evenly over the full range without wrinkling or crimping
- 1/4 in thick diamond-gridded gasket fills pits and uneven pipe surfaces (JCM standard on larger sizes)
- Removable lug: slides off the band receiver pleat so the clamp wraps the pipe in tight spaces
- 3/4 in bolts on 10 in and larger clamps, with bolt torque capability over 100 ft-lb, for repairs beyond the standard installation
- Meets applicable portions of ANSI/AWWA C230; certified to ANSI/NSF 61 Annex G and ANSI/NSF 372
