Self-priming GT model reaches 105 GPM. Residential models cover 16–28 GPM — sized to typical home and small-property water demand.

About Goulds Jet Pumps

What makes the Goulds jet pump series the residential default for over 170 years.

The Goulds jet pump series is engineered for residential and light-commercial water service — well pumping, pressure boosting, irrigation, and farm water supply. Eight distinct models cover four application categories: shallow well, deep well, convertible (shallow or deep), and self-priming. All cast iron pump bodies feature electrophoretic coating (e-coat) that resists rust inside and out, ensuring long service life in outdoor installations.

Every model in the lineup carries the standard 12-month warranty from installation / 18-month warranty from manufacture. Members of the Goulds Professional Dealer Association (GPDA) qualify for extended coverage of 36 months from installation / 42 months from manufacture. The robust preset 30–50 PSI pressure switch (AS4) is included on all models — proven across decades of service.

Key engineering features across the lineup: back pull-out design for service without disturbing the piping, two-compartment motor for easy access to wiring and components, accessible drain plug for winterization, and built-in primer plug for fast initial commissioning. Tank packages are available combining J+, JRS, or JRD jet pumps with HydroPro V15, V45, or V60 pre-charged storage tanks for plug-and-play residential water systems.

Jet Pump Applications

Where Goulds jet pumps are specified across residential, agricultural, and light commercial water service.

Single-Family Homes

Whole-house water supply from drilled or driven wells. JRS and J+ are the most-specified residential models for typical 3-4 bedroom homes.

Mobile Homes & Cottages

Compact water systems with limited installation space. Convertible models like J+ and JRD allow flexible installation as conditions change.

Farm & Ranch

Livestock water supply, hydrant feeds, barn service, and small-acreage irrigation. SJ and VJ deep-well models handle depths beyond shallow-well capability.

Pressure Boost

Boost pressure on existing low-pressure water supply (municipal or well). GT self-priming model is the high-flow boost choice for higher demand.

Irrigation Transfer

Pond-to-field, pond-to-spray, and reservoir transfer applications. GT self-priming with silicon brass impeller handles harder water and irrigation duty.

Light Commercial

Small commercial buildings, kennels, greenhouses, light industrial water service. NSF 61 certification meets drinking water requirements.

Jet Pump Sizing Support

Common sizing decisions where engineering input avoids underperformance or premature failure.

Shallow vs Deep Well

Static water level from ground surface determines installation. Static below 25 ft requires deep well jet pump (twin pipe) or submersible. Above 25 ft, shallow well is sufficient.

Fixture Demand Calculation

Total household fixture units (Hunter's Curve) determines required GPM. Sized to peak demand, not average — typical 3-bed home requires 8–10 GPM peak.

Pressure Tank Sizing

Drawdown capacity matched to pump GPM and pressure switch differential. Larger tank = fewer pump cycles = longer pump life. V60 typical for whole-home service.

Voltage Selection

230V is preferred for HP > 1 — lower current draw, smaller wire, better motor longevity. 115V acceptable for ½ HP. Confirm available service before specifying.

Jet Pumps — Frequently Asked Questions

Which jet pump is right for my home?
It depends on your well depth and water demand. Static water level under 25 ft: shallow well (JRS or JS+) or convertible (J+ or JRD) — single pipe installation. Static water level over 25 ft: deep well (SJ or VJ) or convertible configured for deep well — twin pipe installation. Boost service from existing supply: JS+ or GT for higher flow. We'll size based on your fixture demand and well characteristics.
What's the difference between shallow well, deep well, and convertible?
Shallow well uses a single suction pipe and pulls water by atmospheric pressure — limited to ~25 ft of static lift. Deep well uses two pipes (suction + pressure/drive) and a downhole jet assembly to overcome the 25 ft physical limit, allowing depths to 100+ ft. Convertible models (J+, JRD, HSJ) can be installed either way — shallow well configuration today, converted to deep well later if your water table drops.
Is NSF 61 certification important?
Yes, for drinking water. NSF/ANSI 61 is the certification for products that contact drinking water — it limits chemical leaching from pump materials. All Goulds jet pumps in this lineup are NSF 61 and 372 certified. If you're pumping potable water for human consumption, NSF 61 should be a non-negotiable requirement. Local plumbing codes often require it.
Can I install a jet pump outside?
UL 778-listed models (JS+, J+, HSJ, GT) qualify for outdoor installation per electrical code. Even with UL 778 listing, weather protection (pump house or shroud) extends service life — direct exposure to UV, freezing temperatures, and rain accelerates wear on motor components and electrical connections. Goulds e-coat (electrophoretic painting) on cast iron parts resists rust both inside and out for outdoor durability.
What's included in a tank package?
Pre-configured tank packages combine a Goulds jet pump (J+, JRS, or JRD) with a HydroPro pre-charged pressure tank (V15 / V45 / V60) for plug-and-play residential installation. Packages include the pump, tank, and integrated pressure switch — all matched and tested for optimal cycling and longevity. Available in shallow well (JRS) and convertible (J+, JRD) configurations.
How do I extend my warranty to 36 months?
The 36-month installation warranty (vs the standard 12-month) is available through Goulds Professional Dealer Association (GPDA) members. Watermain Supply can confirm GPDA dealer eligibility on your purchase. The extended warranty covers the same components but for triple the duration — meaningful protection for residential installations.
What's the typical lead time on a Goulds jet pump?
Common residential models (JRS, J+, JRD) typically ship within 1–2 weeks. Less-common configurations (3-phase, 50 Hz international, silicon brass GT impellers) can run 3–4 weeks. Tank packages typically ship in the same timeframe as the bare pump. Exact lead time confirmed on every quote.
