Why Godwin QD

Standard cam-lock fittings work, but Godwin QD is engineered specifically for pumping fleet service — faster connection, more durable in field abuse, and supports angular deflection that cam-lock can't match.

Faster Connect / Disconnect

Single lever closure ring vs. two cam-lock arms. Faster setup and breakdown — meaningful on multi-joint installations.

30° Joint Deflection

Each joint adapts up to 30° to terrain or routing without losing pressure integrity. Cam-lock joints are essentially fixed.

Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel

Heavy-gauge construction survives field service, abuse, dropped tools, and outdoor storage. Built for rental-fleet life cycles.

Complete Adapter Range

Flanged ends, screw ends, strainers, pipe bends (45°/60°/90°), tees, Y-adapters, reducers/increasers, hose ends — every fitting needed for any setup.

Compatible with NPT & ASA Flanges

Bridge fittings adapt Godwin QD to standard NPT threaded or ASA flanged connections. Integrates with existing site equipment.

2 to 12 in Coverage

Standard sizes 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 in covering virtually every pump branch and discharge size in the Godwin line.

QD System Configuration Notes

Building a complete QD setup requires matching connections at every junction. Key configuration considerations:

Selection Guidelines

  • Male / female matching. Every QD junction has one male (ball) and one female (socket) end. Plan your run end-to-end to ensure male/female alternates correctly. We help with this on every quote.
  • Closure ring required. Each QD joint requires a lever closure ring. Pumps and pre-built kits include closure rings; for additional standalone QD purchases, order closure rings as needed.
  • Sealing rings. Standard rubber for water service; oil-resistant rubber for petroleum. Replace when worn or torn — sealing rings are consumables.
  • Bridge fittings. Use NPT-to-QD or flange-to-QD adapters where you need to interface with existing site equipment, valves, or piping. Don't try to force incompatible fittings.
  • Strainer selection. Low-profile for shallow water suction. Small-hole for clean water (max protection). Large-hole for solids-laden suction (won't blind off as fast).
  • Tee orientation. End Tee, Outlet Tee, Line Tee, and Y Adapter all serve different routing purposes. Tell us your flow paths and we'll spec the right tees.

QD Use Cases

QD couplings get used in essentially every Godwin installation — these are the most common configurations.

Pump-to-Hose Connection

Hose shank × male ball or female socket connects discharge or suction hose to the pump branch via flange adapter. Most basic configuration.

Sewer Bypass Routing

Tees, Y-adapters, and elbows route bypass discharge from the wet well around the work area to the downstream connection. 30° joint deflection accommodates uneven terrain.

Wellpoint Header Construction

QD pipe and adapters build the header system that connects multiple wellpoints to the pump suction. Speed of QD assembly is critical on multi-day projects.

Multi-Pump Manifolds

Y-adapters and tees combine multiple pump discharges into a single discharge line. Used in high-volume pumping where parallel pumps share output.

Suction Strainer Service

Strainer adapters at suction ends prevent debris from reaching the impeller. Critical in raw-water and floodwater pumping.

Site Equipment Integration

NPT and flange bridge fittings adapt Godwin QD to existing site valves, hydrants, or process piping. Integrates new pumps into existing infrastructure.

QD Couplings FAQ

Can I mix Godwin QD with cam-lock fittings?
Yes — bridge fittings are available to adapt Godwin QD to cam & groove or NPT threads at any junction. This lets you integrate QD couplings into existing cam-lock-based site equipment without replacing everything. Specify mixing requirements when ordering.
How tight do QD joints need to be?
QD joints close with the lever closure ring — hand-tight is correct. The lever cams the rubber sealing ring against the matching face to seal. Don't use tools to over-tighten; this damages the closure ring without improving the seal. If a joint leaks, check the sealing ring for damage and replace if needed.
What's the pressure rating on Godwin QD?
Godwin QD couplings are typically rated to 150 psi for water service in standard configurations. Higher-pressure applications use flanged connections (150 lb or 300 lb) instead of QD. For HL-series high-head pumps reaching 200+ psi, expect to use flanged piping rather than QD throughout.
Do sealing rings need replacement often?
Sealing rings are consumables — inspect on every connection cycle and replace when torn, swollen, or worn. Typical service life ranges from 3–6 months in heavy rental-fleet service to 1–2 years in occasional / light service. We supply replacement sealing rings in all sizes for both water and oil service.
Can I order a complete QD kit for my Godwin pump?
Yes. Tell us the pump model, intended discharge run length, suction configuration, and any direction changes — we'll spec the full coupling kit including hose adapters, elbows, tees, strainers, and required closure rings. Fastest path to getting all the right fittings on the first order.
